Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I try to give my body a break from time to time but I usually have a nightcap each evening. I seldom drink to intoxication. I'm pretty sure I'm working on a kidney stone so my wife recommended cranberry juice so I took her advice and are now drinking cranberry juice (with some vodka mixed in🤫).
Me and the wifey do the same, we maybe sample 3-4 times a week. Mostly on weekends.

This is why I say Banks need to bring the heat vs OSU.

Jeremiah Smith 16.4 ypc
Emeka Egbuka 12.4ypc
Carnell Tate 14.2 ypc
Brandon Innis 12.6 ypc

If Howard has time with that core Howard could pick us apart.
The teams with success throwing on us have mostly done it through short passes and YAC. That's where Georgia lived. With OSU's line issues and our defensive front they're going to have to change their O a little bit.

I was gonna edit the post and pretty much add this.

I don’t think we get Florida, some with bash and that’s fine, but they are the team that gets hot toward the end of the season.

Bama is the toss up to me, imo. That staff needs to show me a little more for me to pick Bama. All they have is Williams. Will depend on who they grab QB wise. If they get that Cal QB or that Wash St QB, then I’ll be worried.

Ultimately, gonna have to see who gets what in the portal.
Outside of this year, UF has been the exact opposite for the last few years.

Just listen for a couple minutes starting at minute 1:30. It will tell you what we need to know about portal scenario right now.

Needs not numbers - cherry picking not stocking
Don't look at HS ranking look at actual production
Some pickups depend on departures

These early season Neutral Field games are for the birds. Last season it was Charlotte. Tennessee already recruits North Carolina . very well, next season it's Atlanta once again Tennessee already recruits Georgia very well.

Neutral site game should be in areas Tennessee needs to showcase to that states high school talent. Jerry World is a perfect site to get the Texas talent in high school to stand up and take notice.

Nashville, Atlanta, and Charlotte are the three core areas for Tennessee recruiting. Always have been and always will be. When Tennessee is not good, we fall off in those areas. When Tennessee is good, we kill it in those areas and cherry pick elsewhere. It’s not about opening up new areas. It’s about maintaining those vital core areas.

So where does Tennessee always play neutral site games? Nashville, Atlanta, and Charlotte. That’s not a coincidence.

And honestly, they’re fun. We had a blast in Charlotte this year. We will have a blast in Atlanta next year. It’s better than another home game against an FCS school.

I’m looking at their HOME games toward the end of the season and I see:

2022: Played at home once last 4 games.
- USCjr: W
38-6

2023:
- Ark: L
36-39 OT
- 5 FSU: L
15-24

2024:
- 22 LSU: W
27-16
- 9 Ole Miss: W
24-17

I get it, 3-2 isn’t the most impressive stat, BUT now you have to add in the fact they have a very competent QB now and not Mertz.

If Lagway was the QB those last two seasons they at least beat Arkansas in 2023 and their home record would be 4-1 with a close loss to a top 5 FSU team, who they may have beat if Lagway was QB.

With Texas in the conference now there's not a reason to go after there in-state talent..

UF was competent this year all things considered. They have a good class, but we should be much more talented overall for at least 2 more years.

Just win
The portal will be better to Tennessee and harder on Florida for the foreseeable future.

But it’s looking unlikely that we will play them after 2025. Whether the SEC goes to an eight game schedule or a nine game schedule, Florida will fall off of Tennessee’s. So their talent level probably won’t matter to us for a few years after 2025.

It's going to be early January before either the Vols or Lady Vols play another ranked team. Both could be in the 13-0 range.
Check out the DUKIEs schedule-- insane... after their big win over powerhouse Incarnate Word, they will play only ONE RANKED TEAM (clemson) for the rest of the season as it stands now...

Illinois game Saturday is a tough, especially at Illinois hopefully Vols can win..
Yeah they have plenty of talent. Just haven't played well at times. Lost to Bama by 13. Beat Arkansas by 13. Lost to Northwestern by 6.

They did beat #20 Wisconsin by 6 on Tuesday. They should be looked at as a ranked team.

I think we need to see what we do in the transfer portal to replace all the talent we are losing (Oline in particular)... I've said a few times, no excuse for us not to have our pick and get what we want with all the talent there now and who will probably continue to flow into the portal. I know we have a big game coming up, but I would surely hope our staff is making calls and moves behind the scenes.

Can anyone give an update on the Dubar situation? I saw he was away from the team for a while dealing with some personal issues and is now back, but not playing much...

At what point will you trust Heupel?

I won't lie. A small part of me loves seeing loyal cats get rewarded and bag chasers get disappointed.

I won't lie, I like Jeanty. Everything I have seen of him has been that he is a standup guy and hard-nosed player. I still don't think he is the best CFB player but he he has it in him to do great things. I will be rooting for him.

Bama was neutral court, and Northwestern was road game and went to OT.

The worry I have is they only play 2 guys 15+ mpg that are SMALLER than 6'6" so a lot of size and 15th in KenPom. It'll be a Quad 1 win if we take care of business.

The Universities were fined $100,000 each.
Should have been players suspended from both teams for their next game. That’s the only reasonable course of action.
But of course they didn’t because it would affect their playoff and bowl games and the Big10 couldn’t have that.😡

I understand the school being fined for their fans rushing the field. That’s a monetary fine type of penalty.

Unless the Big10 is billing that fine to the coaches and players, it is a false penalty to avoid the correct consequence of game suspension for the melee. 😈
