I am starting to think that this whole 12 team playoff was botched on purpose to sell the idea of a 16 team playoff. The public "consensus" now is the committee is terrible, byes are bad and seeding process sucks. The outcome will be a 16 team play off (no byes) with conference champs(not automatically top seeds) in and teams place according to their position at the end of the season (tie the committees hands).
I believe that it will be a process similar to the one basketball uses.

It should be the process. Said it long ago. March Madness is the ultimate tournament playoffs. The primary parameters for consideration are known preseason. It will always be somewhat subjective on seeding, but it is the best version out there IMO.

16-team playoff will happen once CFB inevitably splits into two super conferences.

Super SEC will be 36 teams
Super Big Ten will be 36 teams

4 divisions of 9 teams based on geographic proximity and maintaining rivalries (as much as possible) in each conference, so 8 divisions total

12-game schedule, you play 8 your divisional games, 2 conference non-divisional games, and 2 OOC games

No conference championship games. Winner of each division punches a playoff ticket, 8 wild card teams also advance (highest rated teams that didn't win their divisions)

Seeding occurs after all teams are in based on W/L record and SoS.

I believe that we are heading to something like that, a model very similar to the NFL. Regional divisions would do away with the craziness of stuff like a Stanford Pitt conference game and foster and strengthen neighborhood rivalries.
And I think you will be right about no conference championship games, they are dead regardless, and the added playoff games would offset the revenue lost.

Heard Pate say every FBS conference had to sign off on changing the playoff format from 4. SEC / B1G wanted the change for the $, but the Big 12, ACC dug in their heels over the auto-byes and the G5 wanted the auto-bid too. Sounds like the SEC / B1G were fine with that arrangement temporarily to get the expansion rolling and they'll change it soon.

He had two tackles and a sack against UMass. Just 38 snaps on the year.

I could be wrong, but I believe that part of the story for this kid was that he was getting paid while in HS under Missouri's NIL laws.

So they paid him for two years. For two tackles and a sack against UMass. Fleeced.

It just seems impossible..but..if we can just somehow someway get by OSU in Columbus, I think the boys will absolutely be on fire and brimming with confidence and momentum...and it would be really hard for anybody in our way to extinguish that fire on neutral fields.

part of me still thinks that if the offense and Nico can just click, and it's a huge IF, we can go on a crazy run. like blow everyone off the field run.

it's not my expectation, i just hope we represent ourselves well.

even still, if Nico can hit those bombs we've been off on, and we can start working our tempo, we will be a nightmare. I think if we are on, we will be on for the playoff. and like any other sport with a playoff/tournament, the team that goes on a run is the most dangerous. when it's clicking, it's clicking. and we have the offense that when they're clicking is insanely lethal.

I hope the Vandy game got the passing game clicking for the playoffs cause if it is we will wreck any team we face.

That is true, but we are headed to territory where the Big 12 and ACC are totally irrelevant as conferences, they had to scratch and scheme to get into the 12 team playoff. Those teams will be begging to be included with the B1G and SEC, and beggars can't be choosers. It has been clear for sometime that the SEC and the B1G are calling the shots from here on out remember the Alliance? Those people saw the train coming down the track. Add to that the NCAA is totally irrelevant as well and the stage has been set for a total restructuring of CFB.

Agreed. We're just hoping NICO plays up to billing and controls the game. Please, let us not see those painful, scoreless quarters.

we just stumble out of the gate time and time again. we had the Vandy game sewn up after we recovered, but we spotted them 14 points in the first five minutes. we have a stupid turnover or penalty that kills our first drive, and then we turtle up.

i'm hoping that a dominant first drive will set the tone and we never look back.

all of this stuff about tennessee taking over the shoe is exactly why i was fine with us going to columbus instead of happy valley if we couldn't host.

those penn state tickets would have been hard to snatch. the buckeye fans are largely apathetic and spoiled. they don't think this is a big deal and/or they don't want it to be. penn state does think its a big deal and they definitely want it to be.

I actually think 14 teams would be best, top 2 get a bye and the highest seeds for the other games host using the final rankings here's what we would have seen.

We would have hosted, but would have gotten Georgia in 2nd round at neutral field.

These OSU guys are so dismissive of us. It is actually annoying. Picking all our flaws apart in UGA game. Doing like most pundits and under crediting the impact our defense has on other teams. They act like they are already better than UGA and Bama and us.
