Conferences (especially the SEC) will never give up their championship games, but they’re superfluous and unnecessary. Only serve to be counterproductive.
I think eventually the SEC and B1G will expand again absorbing the ACC schools with a pulse. FSU, Clemson, Miami, UNC, and NC st to the SEC. Notre Dame, Pitt and Louisville to the B1G, the B1G will most likely make other changes as well (bye, bye Rutgers). Each will have 20 teams. Remaining teams will join G5 conferences.
I think regional divisions will return, two in SEC and two in B1G. The playoffs will be expanded to 16 with the four division winners in SEC and B1G getting spots and the remain spots will be at large bids. All seeding done by post regular season rankings.
I think that the conference championships will go away simply because they have lost their significance and they won't be the money makers they are now (and the coaches rally cry will be
Remember Carson Beck). The expanded playoff will more than offset the revenue lost.
The bowl system games will go away. The NY6 will be Playoff games. The rest will be like the NIT in basketball. (it's all ready that way)
I am not saying I like it but the die was cast ten years ago.
