Recruiting Football Talk VIII

You mean to tell me ARK had not one but two OL transfer out? Pittman’s personality is just so off putting he drove off two OL bc he can’t connect with his recruits and players.

***Checked and it turns out they had FIVE OL transfer out this year. Pittman must be such a weird guy!!***

OL guru.

Preciate that. Yeah man after meeting half the team and coaches, having Coach Heup and Pope at the house that was really cool. And definitely excited for Nico going forward
I wish we could talk Cam into staying. He and Nico were my favorite recruits that class.

Disagree.

Mahomes put up massive numbers in college and was widely viewed as a top pick, which he was. Allen grew up on a farm working and playing multiple sports so it made sense he was raw and inexperienced. Neither of those guys are like Levis, who has demonstrated over an extended period that he is inaccurate, inconsistent and a poor decision maker at QB. He fell to the second round for that exact reason despite the ESPN hype machine.

Also, a second round pick is extremely valuable. LaPorta, Ojulari, Luke Musgrave, Brian Branch, Keion White, Jayden Reed, Rashee Rice, and Joe Tippmann are just a few second rounders from that same draft who have contributed a good deal and would have improved the Titans roster.

Also, if you’re taking a flier on a QB who will likely bust, why not local hero Hendon Hooker in the third who is far better than Will Levis?

The Titans front office is dumb.
Agree with much of your point, but the Mahomes part was a little revisionist. Mahomes was evaluated as ANOTHER Leach system QB with better measurables than the many that preceded him. Wasn’t projected as a first rounder until after standout Senior Bowl and Combine interviews vaulted him into a lower first round possibility. He was still evaluated as (at best) the fourth prospect in that class and Andy Reid did some cloak and dagger disinformation to make that trade-up a thing.

There were seasons where Peyton Manning was the clear best at the craft, then Brady would do his thing or Drew Brees would raise his hand. Last year Lamar Jackson was the MVP and watched Mahomes be inferior AND hoisting the Lombardi. No doubt Allen is running a clinic and fun to watch.
I laughed when Allen just jumped up after getting blasted by the Detroit Defensive lineman and dusted himself off, in the meantime throwing a 60 yard dart to Keon Coleman.

I get it there are only 3 games left but it is wild to me as the article states "The Titans need to get the clearest picture possible on who Will Levis is and what he is able to do going into the offseason so the team can make the soundest decision possible on his future". Also states that he is the "highest ceiling of any quarterback connected to the franchise" While that may be the case he has shown that he doesn't have the competence to reach that ceiling.

The last few games there have been more designed qb runs, Nico taking off, and moving the pocket. At the beginning of the season I think the main concern was keeping Nico healthy. We will show the qb run and probably use it some if for no other reason than to keep it a threat and have OSU have to account for it.

We need to run him more AND we need to pass the ball to Sampson on wheel routes, shallow crosses, in the flat etc. Listened to an interview with Hyatt from this week and he said even when Sampson was a freshman (Hyatts junior and last season here) that he knew Sampson was gonna be a star because of how well he caught the ball as a back. Knowing that .. how many passes do you remember to Sampson this season? We never throw to him. That would be a great wrinkle thats not on film to surprise OSU with...

December 16, 1974

UT -7
Maryland - 3

In 1974, the Condredge Holloway era was coming to an end on Rocky Top. Thanks to Holloway being banged up, UT started off the year 2-3-1. However, they regrouped to win four straight before tying the Vanderbilt Commodores, entering this bowl 6-3-2 and unranked.

On the other side, the Maryland Terrapins were 8-3 under Jerry Claiborne, ACC Champions and ranked No. 10. They should’ve been the better team, and they carried a 3-0 lead into the fourth quarter with Holloway knocked out of the game.

A bad snap on a UMD punt spotted the Vols the ball at the Terps seven-yard line. Backup Randy Wallace then found Larry Seivers for a score. An Ernie Ward interception, Maryland’s fifth turnover, secured a UT win. They finished 7-3-2, No. 20 in the AP Poll and No. 15 in the Coaches Poll. It was their last bowl under Bill Battle and until 1979.
