I mean, they still have some DUDES tbh. In the top-100 ranking where Pearce is #1, UM has 2 guys in the top 10.Doubt that game will even be close. Does anyone get why Michigan is 9th? Other than they are the defending champs?
The comment want really meant to create a lot of discussion… Great recruiters all have a similar personality type… They all fit the mode of Smart, Saban, Fulmer, etc…. They obsessed and were extremely intense towards recruiting. That’s not Josh Heupel….. He does have some traits that help with recruiting… exciting offense, great culture, great with parents and kids. While I won't disagree with the premise about the athletic department in general, I don't think kids play football here without a) believing in what the football program had to offer in all areas and b) if there's not a track record to lean on both on and off the field.
So not only will I not ignore the current status of the athletic program as a huge benefit for recruiting (in all programs), I will also still give credit to this staff for now getting guys across the finish line now, where they weren't necessarily in previous years.
Bottom line guys like David Sanders and Faizan Brandon aren't coming here solely because of the condition of the athletic department.
Does it help that things are so aligned? Absolutely. The way things are right now overall is the type of alignment most of us have been clamoring for, for more than a decade. I would argue it's probably better than we imagined it could be.
But somebody still has to close in football.
I think now you go laser target your guys in top 25 players in Country. No more projects. No more taking guys just to take em, cause you can coach em up. That can be done with schollie increases.
Go get the absolute best, you have a real chance to get a top 5 class.
