I’m pretty sure I posted this after Heupel was hired….. but when we got him, I didn’t love it. I don’t know what I was expecting as a hire but definitely bought into the “over the moon” comments and thought we were landing a big fish.

Once the dust settled, the homer in me started to like the hire and I posted on this forum that my hope was that we’d become something similar to what Oregon was under Chip Kelly. The “cool school” per se. Probably never compete for anything major but to be a perennially winning team, explosive offense, fun to watch for a few years and with an overhauled roster.

We were so bad for so long. The butt of so many jokes. Georgia State to a horrific sec record to include something like not beating a sec west team in what… three years? We’ve just been so bad that I forgot WHAT Tennessee can be and just wanted to be the cool school.

I, like most, ridiculously underestimated Heupel and this staff.

We are the cool school and I firmly believe we will win multiple National Championships with this staff.

Like alot kids from the 2023 team, thought his play regressed from what he did in 2022. Was banged up too so that didn't help. He would be starting or at worse in the rotation if he stayed.

Same way that aspertame causes cancer. Insane amounts over a long period of time can increase the likelihood, but normal use is definitely not going to cause it.

Here is what I have said from the beginning:
1. Heup’s weakness is recruiting
2. People needed to stop freaking out about recruiting… it would look a lot more like Clemsons recruiting than Alabamas or Georgias.
3. As long as our scouting is good…. get a few stars and have very few true misses( done pretty well there and transfers help)
4. one thing that really impresses me is how Heup sets standards, and goals for his program but allows his coaches to do their jobs.
5. I felt that having the best administration in college sports would help cover up/fix any weaknesses that any coach had at the moment. It is why we are dominating the all sports trophy.
6. I felt eventually our recruits and rankings would match up. ( seems to be happening now)
9. I don’t think Heup would be as successful if hired by our previous administrations.
10. I have always felt that you build a program from the top down… I don’t know why this is a negative.

Go Vols!!! Let’s win it all this year.

I'd love to finally get a true 5* DT... we haven't had one in quite a while... not talking Edge/etc, but a true nose tackle, that clogs the whole up the middle and takes two OL to manange...

Big O and Elijah S. have both been that guy and have consistently opened things up for other guys. Omari has also had quite a few hurries and some sacks. Simmons has gotten less pressure.

Ok...I think Heupel is a good recruiter that does not use the high pressure system, and is kinda choosy about players he goes all in on...and I think our myriad issues had more to do with recruiting than anything else.

This season goes well and recruiting will get even better.

I'm going to give him the credit he deserves for taking a garbage strewn, burned out wasteland and turning it into a 5* world renowned resort.

I stand by what I said. There’s no evidence a PWO with 0 snaps played is better than Jabari Small. And your bestie refereeing his game doesn’t qualify

And I’ve been on the RF for the whole decade I’ve been here. But go on being mad during one the best weekends we’ve had in years. Or you could go outside.
