Recruiting Football Talk VIII

If you say so, I don't follow super close these days. I just feel he could at least be depth since we lost Thomas.
He knew he was going to be on the bench behind younger and more athletic depth like John Slaughter and Boo Carter…amongst others. Worrying about stuff you don’t follow closely doesn’t seem healthy.

I never really boom whenever we land commitments...follow recruiting long enough, and I've seen kids flip right before pen hits paper on signing day; so, even though I'm always happy and pumped whenever a kid pledges the Vols, I usually hold my full excitement for their signature...George Jefferson only dances on signing day.

With all of that said, Heupel and Co are on a tear right now, and I'm so fired up, I can hardly contain it. And, I can only think about how Heupel will be on the trail, once he has a playoff in his pocket, an SEC Championship, more wins, big-time wins. This is really just the beginning, guys and gals!!

Feeling awesome right now, with the season now less than two weeks aways. Man!!! I love this time of year!!!

OL is the toughest position group to sell…just above DL. They’re like any herd mass. They graze where the grass is greener and they feel safe…but it takes time for them to get moving.

With early signing and NIL, seems like flips aren’t nearly as big of a deal as they used to be. Our classes have held together pretty well and been wrapped up early. Bigger thing is that a recruit is only as good as he performs on Saturdays for the next 3-5 years.

The comment want really meant to create a lot of discussion… Great recruiters all have a similar personality type… They all fit the mode of Smart, Saban, Fulmer, etc…. They obsessed and were extremely intense towards recruiting. That’s not Josh Heupel….. He does have some traits that help with recruiting… exciting offense, great culture, great with parents and kids.

We are ahead of the game in almost every area and that is bc of the wisdom of Boyd and Plowman. Hiring Danny White was the best decision they have ever made… There is a reason almost every single program is better than the way he found it. Almost everything is ran smoothly over on the hill(except for not being able to spell David) 😂 Every coach has weaknesses but the athletic department is helping them to become strengths. It is a great day to be VOL

There will be no burning of mattresses if one our coaches leaves in the middle of the night… The next hire will be successful as well. I am 100% sure of that. BVS is gone!!!
Big-time recruit: "Yeah, Randy Boyd and Donde Plowman were huge in my recruitment...they were what pushed UT over the top. If they weren't calling me everyday, they were texting...and, not just about football, but my schooling and family, as well. I mean, yeah, Coach Heupel, Coach Banks, Coach Garner...they're my guys, you know; but, President Boyd and Chancellor Plowman!!! They're in-home visit is really what sealed the deal."

Not even close to what I said or claimed.

I don’t know what I have said in the past…. its really not that deep…. plus it’s a good thing and not a negative.
You've always either outright said or heavily implied that Heupel is a sucky/weak recruiter, so you have never acknowledged that the obvious recruiting speedbumps he and the staff has had to deal with since he took over were most likely the primary reason for the "decent, not great" recruiting since he took over...Nope those prominent, easily identifiable issues are not the reason, he just ain't very good at cruitin.

Now...when his recruiting is undeniably awesome, you STILL call him a weak recruiter...you still refuse to acknowledge the roadblocks he had thriwn in his way, and still give him very little credit as a recruiter...instead giving the credit to other things like NIL.

Correct me if I’m wrong here. I thought the Pilot money isn’t specifically going to NIL but rather the Athletic Department for “preserving Neyland Stadium” right?
Yes, but imo it's just a bucketing thing.

If donors were previously pouring in $ for the stadium rebuild, now they have $ for NIL.

One can hope this is how it plays out.
