Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Tried for the past few days to convince my wife to drive to Knoxville, drop the kids off with the grandparents, and head north to Columbus. She’s rolled her eyes every time. This morning, one last ditch effort, and this time I didn’t get an eye roll I just got “no, but you have fun.”

Pat McAfee has made game day unwatchable for me. Now that he and everyone is cussing on daytime TV I have to turn it off when my littles are in the room. Win win I suppose but sad state of society…. JMO

I made a similar comment about IND coach using 2 different 4 letter words on there yesterday. No class. Glad they got hammered by a crap team

December 21, 2008.......

Jamal Lewis needed 63 yrds rushing vs the Cincinnati Bengals to rush for 10,000 career yrds. In the third quarter, Lewis ran for 8 yrds to become the 24th player in NFL history to accomplish the feat. As a rookie, he helped Baltimore to the Super Bowl and ran for 103 yrds and a TD in the victory over the Giants. In 2003, Lewis ran for 295 yrds vs Cleveland and finished the season with 2,066 Yrds. Lewis finished his career with 10,607 yrds and 58 TDs rushing and 1,879 receiving yrds and 4 TDs.

Breaking 10,000 vs Cincinnati

People forget he was a 2000yd rusher in the NFL single season. That makes him super elite. We have great RBs at UT...he is probably the most gifted athlete we have ever had at RB though. I think Chuck Webb is 2nd most gifted personally.

Who we pulling for in the early games today?

I gotta pull for Texas, only because I do NOT want Clemson and Dabo (and all the folks at work) to get rewarded for being a 3 loss mediocre team that got lucky to fall backward into their title game and win a trash league (below the MWC and Little12 champs 😅🤣)

I'll go with SMU over PSU. Get a more talented team out of here, that helps.

The road to Columbus:

Speaking of Tyre...I've wondered if he hasn't been banged up pretty bad during the season. He started the season the first few games looking like a bull in a china shop, but then kinda disappeared for a few games.
Been wondering if that has been the case for the entire d-line. A little banged up and not as effective as they were.

Hoping the 3 week rest helped them recharge their batteries a little.

Idk. I just want the easiest team possible when we get past OSU and Oregon.

The problem there is you give yourself no room for error (assuming the stupid autobid rules are removed). If we play a trash schedule because we're in a trash conference then one single misstep like the one against Arkansas could knock us out of the playoffs. Especially during the 4 team era when an undefeated ACC champ like FSU was getting knocked out in favor of a 1-loss SEC team.

Being in a great conference like the SEC gives you room for error and the benefit of the doubt. For example we were safely in the playoffs as a 10-2 team while Miami at 10-2 wasn't even the first team out. A 3-loss Alabama was ahead of them. If we played in a down conference like the ACC stuff like that would happen to us all the time unless we were perfect.
Clemson lost 3 games and are in via a trash league 😅🤣

With the format, just win the championship of your trash league, in case you don't just go 1-loss or better to begin with. If anything your backup plan is still easy in a trash league.

Some if y'all acting like if Georgia, Alabama and others in SEC getting into CFP helps Vols in the end. Well for the last 20 years it hasn't helped Tennessee at all in recruiting or anything else. The window lickers for the whole SEC are finally showing their spots.

Tennessee or nothing for myself,to hell with the rest..
Exactly. Their success does NOT help us. Eff perception if they suck, their great success literally hurts us in very direct ways.

Seeing all the SEC love out of nowhere last night was sad. Hopefully just the dark liquor talking.
