Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Why do contemporary American soldiers seem to have far higher rates of this stuff than the soldiers of old?

It seems like it would help to know the answer to that question...war is hell, but it has always been hell....so why?

More recent generations of soldiers are much open about their issues. WW1 and 2 vets were a different breed. The WW1 guys weren't far removed from the much harsher realities of the less tame 1800's and WW2 soldiers had just endured the Great Depression.

They undoubtedly suffered either in silence and you had others that took it out on their families throughout the 50's. Those guys also had a much more simplified outlook toward the enemy being "evil" an inciting the situation.

Wars since then have typically been long-term wars of attrition with more civilians involved that blurred the lines of morality. Plus, info is much more widespread and the media much more willing to run negative stories about veterans and the military in general.

Im not sure Hwepul (@mrMet) was ever a bad recruiter tbh, I think between having the lower resources and less prestige at UCF coupled with never having any NIL, much less God-tier NIL like Spyre maybe made him appear worse than he actually is.

One other thing too, he seems to be relishing in this new, modern CFB environment whereas coaches like Saban, Kirby, and Dabo are clearly not. I have absolutely zero complaints or worries about him.

Mental health wasn’t even seen as a thing until during WW1 when slowly over the war it was beginning to be figured out something wasn’t right. But early on it took literal physical symptoms to even start to think something was wrong and they might not just be mere cowards. (If you ran out of your trench losing your mind you were caught and shot.)

At one point they were losing more mental to complete breakdowns than what they could replace them with.

During WW2 a few improvements were made, but for the most part the men drank and raped their way thru their mental health struggles. (Ex: WW2 estimated between 70-120 MILLION rapes across Europe…admittedly mostly BY far from Nazi’s and Soviet Union but there was blame all around.

Suicide was an issue in both wars on a very large level.

Once home from the war most became alcoholics, secluded themselves, became abusive or lived lonely lives struggling to cope forever.

Vietnam was the same.

I’ve barely scratched the surface and this reply is too long. Just sharing a bit to ponder is all.

Finally we are STARTING to get it and recognize we need massive care for our vets. I’m so thankful that at least we are starting to realize it.

So much more to go tho.

To all who have served, from the depths of my SOUL…thank you. I did not. But I try to learn to try to begin to understand so maybe I can try to better listen. God bless you all. 🇺🇸❤️
This is almost surely the answer. There was PTSD, it just wasn’t named or understood.

My younger brother was in Iraq and for years after would panic if he passed trash on the road while in a car.

Ehh, idk man. He hasn't played yet to be considered a bust has he?

I'm not sure why he left USCw but Boise St coaches could prefer experience over young talent. Wouldn't be the first staff to do so.
No former 5* star transfers to boise to lose the qb competition; he went to boise to start. Hes 1 year ahead of malachi. Maddux was 110th qb of the 2022 class.

How delusional can you be? In an alternative world where everything lined up perfectly I could end up with Salma Hayek……but that ain’t reality.

The annual ‘This could be UK’s year’ hype. It’s like clockwork. They’re just good enough that those looking for a dark horse pick them but bad enough anyone that’s seen them play knows it will never happen.

Have they started the videos bragging about routes on air completions yet?

Happy Monday. It is a bummer a weekend that good for the Vols had to end, but let's make it count.

August 19, 2024: Your breakthrough is coming slowly but surely, minute by minute, one day at a time. Do not discount the progress that you are making, no matter how small it seems. You will soon look back and be amazed at how far you have come. Colossians 3:23-24 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.

As I see it, wars are manufactured to feed the corporate industrial war machine, to steal wealth from the citizens, transfer it to private corporations, empower their political lackies and get them re-elected in perpetuity. If we really wanted to serve our vets better, the citizens would rise up and put a stop to that instead of asking those perpetual political lackies to do more for the soldier-fodder after they use them up and throw them aside.

Probably because we’re paying more attention to it. My brother started an apparel brand to help being recognition to the issue.
