Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Some of yall need to grow a dang pair and stop whining. Good Lord almighty- I’m sorry there is a little bit of difficulty in the college football program that you root for. You complain that you’ll need to “take a step back” because of a 20 year old’s life decision. They’re the ones out there practicing and devoting their life to football- and you’re losing your mind over some dang transfers.

That’s not the Volunteer Spirit. Tennessee folks are different because they don’t give up with things look down- hell- they join the dang fight when it doesn’t look winnable. Get off your phone and go for a long run or lift some weights. Go for a walk. Kiss your wife and kids. Do something hard in your life and then cheer on the boys when they take Shield Watkins again in the fall.

But for goodness sakes, grow a pair and quit your dang whining.

Imo, we play the portal too defensively. We react to people trying to poach our players instead if proactively up their nil’s and only recruit transfers once we are low at a position instead of proactively trying to improve each position
So, how did we retain our DL last year except Barron? Frankly, no one on here knows how the staff is operating. It seems that we have always retained players we’ve wanted. I guess that doesn’t help the narrative.

Its no secret most of CFB has figured out how to handle every part of the portal better than UT.

AU sucks every yr now and they are lapping Tennessee
Just incorrect. But I know that’s not what you want to drive. This place needs to hit the portal.

Oh, and if AU sucks every year, then how the heck does that mean they are doing it correctly? You contradicted yourself.

Thank you for all the love and support that I received the last couple days. There is not another fan base like VolNation.

I’ll be in and out the next couple of weeks just trying to get everything squared away.

Much love to everyone on here and truly blessed to call everyone here my family.

Couple of my terrible notes :)

- Sucks if we lose Boo, but oh well. Jourdan
Thomas can step up. He was the original starter along with Harrison, if I’m not mistaken.

- Was hoping Sampson would return but good for him, a perfect representative of this university.

- Josh Thompson don’t make me sad

- And finally, GO. GET. MAKHI. HUGHES.

Love you all.
Sorry for your loss brother. And sorry I wasn’t on here too much the past few days because of the holidays so didn’t know that you’re going through this. Praying for you and your family.

Not losing my mind over here. Simply saying that the sport is not as 'compelling' to follow if now, there is no loyalty to the school. If every year, many of the players you've followed simply jump ship, not nearly as good of an experience for the fans as in the past. So yes, I bleed orange and always have but, current state is concerning. I can just see an 'Al Wilson' jumping ship in the past for a better offer. Then, a fantastic story would be much less of one.

Yeah I think retention is s priority, and I agree with that.

I do think we have seen at other programs being selectively aggressive for top guys can be very helpful. So I'd like to see us get in to that a bit more. We've watched guys we could use go be big time players elsewhere, while we've muddled around with some developmental guys we've brought in.

I think overall we've been really good in the portal. Maybe a bit unlucky with a guy like pili that was a big impact player... But I think we've all seen guys we've played against be big impact players for some of our opponents.... And probably will again next year.
