Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I went to the Chattanooga game and Nico looked absolutely fantastic. He hit every throw early in that game because the o-line gave him time. Same thing happened against NC State and Kent St, then we went to Oklahoma. He got blasted early in that game and it messed with him. You throw in WR's dropped passes and you get a regular looking QB. He's not had time to throw for most of the season. We also forget that he's just a RS Freshman. If they can get the o-line fixed and the WRs to catch, then Nico and the offense will look like the 22 offense again. I still believe Nico is going to be the best QB we've had in the Josh Heupel era.
That’s a bold take Possum. I hope you are right because that would make us unstoppable. Hopefully you just spoke it into existence. I like it!

I do think Darnell Wright was that good.

I really hope Halzle is the next one to get a HC job but I just don’t see it.
Me neither.

Seems like Huepel just kept promoting from within, and now has a staff full of GA’s on the offensive side. Went out and got the best available on D with guys like Inge and we have shown a lot of improvement on that side of the ball. O meanwhile has regressed.

I'd cut a trail too. They don't need the money and certainly wouldn't want the headache. I wouldn't be surprised to see coaches quit after 5-6 years of making $10m a year. I would.
I would do the same thing. Coaches are fighting 2 different monsters , trying to keep your own players and recruit new players every year. We all new once this NIL started that it would destroy college sports.

Let’s be honest, the talent gap between Oklahoma and Chattanooga is immense. It’s easy to win against UTEP, Kent State and Chattanooga.

Yup. Defensive strategy has been different.

You do realize all professional wrestling is just persona?

Although I do believe Flair lived it. I'm not sure if he was all in on everything he said.

Saw him out on the lake in Charlotte several times growing up. Lake Wylie, on the NC/SC border. He was a party animal that always had a couple barely dressed women with him on his boat. Partying. All the lake dwellers down here told stories about his coke fueled parties and wild lifestyle. He was open and friendly to everyone though from what I saw, usually with his boat anchored at the sandbar where the water is only chest deep and everyone ties their boats together to party all night on the weekends. Never heard a bad word said about him from anyone though growing up. By all accounts he was a really nice guy. TIFWIW...I was too young back then to party. Just thought he was cool 😎

Yes.... I know that.

The point was:

Nico is far better when he has time to throw and not worried about a DE hitting him in the back within a second of the snap. The o-line has to give him time and the WRs have to catch it. Nico is special.

(That's why the offenses of Ohio St and Georgia looked so dominant against us. We didn't get any pressure on them and they're QBs had time to throw.)

Good grief UNC is getting hammered by their "mini me" look alike team. That has to suck. Love it.

I married into a Tarheel family, and take particular joy when we beat them in BasketVol. Any other sport as well...but BB really crushes their nutz because they think they are special in that sport. Even though they have done nearly nothing since Dean Smith retired. Decades ago.

Carolina has 45 yards offense...and 50 penalty yards. Oof...

I would not be surprised at all if Nico sticks to his original NIL deal for his time at UT. We stepped out and made him the highest paid person in the country, before anyone else. Reportedly 4 years, 8M dollars. Thats life changing money for him and his close-knit family if managed responsibly. In Tennessee with no state income taxes ( BIG deal. I live in NC and it sucks). With responsible financial planning Nico and his family should be set up for the future even if he never plays a single snap in the NFL. By all accounts they are good people too and I am happy for the Iamaleava Family.

Do I think a LOT of star QBs are trying to renegotiate their deals now that Duke is reportedly overpaying a ridiculous $4M per year for their QB? Yes I do. Lots of them. I am glad we havent heard anything about our loaded QB room comcerning the portal. We have 3 QBs in there now that are Elite 11 caliber QBs. Probably the best QB room in the country for the next several years with Brandon coming.
LaNorris Sellers, per a friend of mine living in Columbia and in the know, signed a 2.7 million NIL deal within the last week.

NIL is fine. It’s created parity in a lot of ways. The Bamas of the world can no longer stockpile 5 star guys on the bench. The transfer portal does need some regulation though.

And down to their 3rd string QB

I mean, you can detest Carolina basketball all you like, but that was a joke. Right?
