Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Not at all, just giving a suggestion to someone who doesn’t want to see bourbon or whiskey talk in this thread
I have no problem with alcohol being posted personally, but I do understand why some are asking for it to be in a different thread. Undoubtedly you've got recovering or recovered alcoholics in here who don't need to be seeing it. And as others have said they have lost family and friends to alcoholism recently.

Blocking you is not a reasonable request. You post other good content, and even if they did block you OTHER people join in the conversation that they'll see. That's just not a reasonable solution. The best solution would be to have a separate thread for that, but idk if that will happen. Probably a question for Freak.

December 25, 1899.......Christmas Day!

UT - 6
Grant - 0

J.A. Price was Tennessee’s first full time Head Coach. His last game of his first season was vs Grant College (now UT Chattanooga) in Chattanooga on Christmas Day. 2,500 spectators watched UT defeat Grant on a field covered in 3 inches of mud. The only score (TDs counted 5 points) was a 10 yard run by H.S. Olmstead and an extra point by Logan, giving Tennessee a 6-0 victory. Tennessee would finish the season 6-2.

Can you pick @InVOLuntary and @BaldBiker out of this team photo? Hint, @BaldBiker still had hair. 🤠

Bullsh*t. I specifically avoided saying drunk driving for a reason. I personally know of other incidences in my own life of drunk people getting violent and hurting and even killing other people when they were otherwise non-violent. I didn't want to limit it to that. If I didn't say it, then you're interpreting it...that's not gaslighting...that's you making an assumption.

I don’t have a problem with folks drinking responsibly and my posts haven't been anti-alcohol. My point was that health related issues from food don’t compare to health related issues from alcohol. That's my opinion and I've got a right to share it. It takes a long time of repeated poor eating choices to severely impact your health but you can literally drink yourself to death or even get drunk and hurt others in a matter of hours. There's also a chemical impact on your brain from alcohol. These are FACTS. Alcohol has higher risks than unhealthy food. It isn't crazy to say that and certainly not gaslighting. How the hell is that such an upsetting thing for some folks to hear?

Editing to add: you should look up the definition of gaslighting before accusing someone of doing it. I said that my original post didn't specifically say drunk driving. That's the absolute truth...so it's impossible for me to be gaslighting you.
And FWIW, to your earlier point, death of any form is the ultimate impact to health, so what does it even matter if DUIs are included in the discussion? What did I miss?

(This is from someone who ended the year last night with a nice sniff of bourbon.)

I watched Bret's side of it, and it makes sense that he'd be really unhappy with what Shane and the cocks did.

To be brief, it sounds like there is an "unwritten" "rule" in NCAAF that on kickoffs, if the receiving team is going to fair catch, the entire receiving team will make a fair catch signal so that everyone on the coverage team knows it's a fair catch and doesn't mistakenly take a defenseless player's head off b/c they're not expecting the hit.

Bret says that it's been a sacred, ethics-based tradition for the safety of the players, and Shane betrayed it.

When they told Bret that Shane said he'd come across to make that "fair catch" sign at Shane, Bret laughed and said, "No. I was doing it to everyone on their sideline!"

If all that's true, I can see why Bret would make a big deal of it.

And if all that's true, Shane is just that much more of a creep, with his "Bret needs to check the rule book; we didn't break any rules."

I didn't see it live but if this is all it was, then Beamer wins the SEC "crybaby of the year" award.

*Even, Eli Drinkwiz thinks that was a tad overboard for Shane.

Shane knew he'd crossed a line that coaches otherwise have refused to cross, all for just a few more yards on a KO return, and was feeling defensive that he'd been called out on it.

in this new year, I suggest people quit being so negative 😁
Normally I say that I will try to be nicer to people in this new year. Hasn’t worked out in the past so I think I will try something different.
I am going to hold people accountable for their actions and behaviors. It’s time to be responsible.

In fairness to @mrMet, he's probably seen a lot of over the top anti-alcohol stuff directed at him in his line of business. I'm assuming that colored his interpretation of what I was saying and he's probably well beyond wanting to have discussions that might focus on the negative impacts of alcohol...and I get that. I don’t think I was out of line...other than the tampon comment (which you have to admit was funny)...but I try to still be understanding as to why the topic can be sensitive for just about everyone in some way. Some things are difficult to discuss. To that point, my suggestion of moving the discussion was based on avoiding further negative responses and not because I'm personally tired of seeing it.

I'm not taking sides. I like both of you and generally enjoy both of y'all's posts. Just making a point about the discussion and an issue taken about it.

Death is the ultimate effect on health. And when DD is taken into the discussion, alcohol kills others while process foods generally only kill the people that make the decision to eat it. Not other people who merely cross their paths unexpectedly.

(The major exceptions here are Taco Bell and Krystal. To my great despair, I may have killed innocent people who crossed my path, having chosen to eat those. I say "may have" because I tend to leave elevators without looking back.)

@VolsDoc81TX is liking posts from Christmas Day. He will join us in the new year around Valentines Day, I suspect.

Yup, I took a sip of fukitol and just jumped from Christmas to New Year’s day.
Going to have to get better at scrolling on by some of the silliness, but VN is my escape from reality usually.

Happy New Year!
