I was there. Sitting in endzone behind the Jeff Powell TD run. You could see it develop from the snap. Game over for MiamiJanuary 1, 1986
UT - 35
Miami - 7
All the talk leading up to the game was if Miami would be voted National Champion if #1 Penn State lost in the Orange Bowl to #3 Oklahoma (which they did). They really didn't think the Vols had much of a chance against Miami
The Game: Miami scored first using a fake punt to set up a TD pass to future Hall of Famer Michael Irvin and everyone thought that was the beginning of the end for the Big Orange.
However, that was all Miami would score as the Vols brought the pressure of nine-man blitzes and never allowed Vinny to get into the game by sacking him seven times and picking him off three times. The Vols took advantage of those turnovers and good field position to roll over Miami 35-7.
The Big Play: 7:21 in the 3rd Quarter Tennessee RB Jeff Powell blasted through the line and ran 60 yards for a TD that put the Vols up 28-7 and was pretty much the nail in the coffin.
MVP: The UT Defense. They were just all over Testaverde the whole game, giving him nowhere to run or hide. They had a great defensive stand in the 1st Quarter as Miami started on their 13. After 11 plays, Miami ended back at their 13 yard line.
You ask many fans and it is one of their favorite games of all time and people were celebrating all though Tennessee. Fans were packed at the airport for the homecoming and honking horns at the bus as they drove back to the dorms.

I don’t think anybody here disagrees that alcohol is a poison. I still stand by and agree with everything else I said, especially about the shi**y foods that Americans ingestIn fairness to @mrMet, he's probably seen a lot of over the top anti-alcohol stuff directed at him in his line of business. I'm assuming that colored his interpretation of what I was saying and he's probably well beyond wanting to have discussions that might focus on the negative impacts of alcohol...and I get that. I don’t think I was out of line...other than the tampon comment (which you have to admit was funny)...but I try to still be understanding as to why the topic can be sensitive for just about everyone in some way. Some things are difficult to discuss. To that point, my suggestion of moving the discussion was based on avoiding further negative responses and not because I'm personally tired of seeing it.
it's like any vice. gambling, drinking, over eating. It takes a very strong personality to be able to not be affected by them in any way.I don’t think anybody here disagrees that alcohol is a poison. you’re free to disagree all you want
I was there with 3 buddies. We had great seats on the 25 or 30 yard line. We stayed at the Hyatt right across the street. That road trip followed by the trip to watch the Miracle at South Bend are etched in my memory forever I hopeI was there. Sitting in endzone behind the Jeff Powell TD run. I never disagreed about certain foods being bad. My point was that alcohol has worse, and more immediate, negative side effects if the context is over-indulging in either...which is why I think it's a little bit of a false equivalence. Ultimately, what we think about either isn't really worth all this back and forth.I don’t think anybody here disagrees that alcohol is a poison.
