Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I watched Bret's side of it, and it makes sense that he'd be really unhappy with what Shane and the cocks did.

To be brief, it sounds like there is an "unwritten" "rule" in NCAAF that on kickoffs, if the receiving team is going to fair catch, the entire receiving team will make a fair catch signal so that everyone on the coverage team knows it's a fair catch and doesn't mistakenly take a defenseless player's head off b/c they're not expecting the hit.

Bret says that it's been a sacred, ethics-based tradition for the safety of the players, and Shane betrayed it.

When they told Bret that Shane said he'd come across to make that "fair catch" sign at Shane, Bret laughed and said, "No. I was doing it to everyone on their sideline!"

If all that's true, I can see why Bret would make a big deal of it.

And if all that's true, Shane is just that much more of a creep, with his "Bret needs to check the rule book; we didn't break any rules."
Typical cheating Beamer. He continues to build his legacy of unethical play

UT - 35
Miami - 7

All the talk leading up to the game was if Miami would be voted National Champion if #1 Penn State lost in the Orange Bowl to #3 Oklahoma (which they did). They really didn't think the Vols had much of a chance against Miami

The Game: Miami scored first using a fake punt to set up a TD pass to future Hall of Famer Michael Irvin and everyone thought that was the beginning of the end for the Big Orange.

However, that was all Miami would score as the Vols brought the pressure of nine-man blitzes and never allowed Vinny to get into the game by sacking him seven times and picking him off three times. The Vols took advantage of those turnovers and good field position to roll over Miami 35-7.

The Big Play: 7:21 in the 3rd Quarter Tennessee RB Jeff Powell blasted through the line and ran 60 yards for a TD that put the Vols up 28-7 and was pretty much the nail in the coffin.

MVP: The UT Defense. They were just all over Testaverde the whole game, giving him nowhere to run or hide. They had a great defensive stand in the 1st Quarter as Miami started on their 13. After 11 plays, Miami ended back at their 13 yard line.

You ask many fans and it is one of their favorite games of all time and people were celebrating all though Tennessee. Fans were packed at the airport for the homecoming and honking horns at the bus as they drove back to the dorms.

I was 14 when this game took place and I remember it like it was yesterday. There's been plenty of big games over the years, and this is one that's near the top as far as I'm concerned. The feeling of no one giving us a chance, and then the feeling at the conclusion of the game is something that's hard to forget and doesn't get duplicated very often.

Nashville is all in on Lord of the Rings towers
There’s some pretty interesting architecture downtown imo, and the new blends in well with the old.
