Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Heupel would never have been in that situation that led to the taunting. Doing the T bar and then returning the kickoff is the same thing as a QB faking a slide.
A hill I will die on, disconcerting signals as a penalty on the defense is complete garbage. You let a qb fake clap, make multiple claps, yell out fake signals all to get the defense to jump offside yet the defense can’t do the same thing,,, absolute garbage of a penalty

Yesterday I thought it was disrespectful by Bielema. Now I’m thinking maybe Bielema was just making light hearted joke and Beamer took it way too hard. It was only the Cheez it bowl lol.
I suspect there was nothing lighthearted about it. I think Bielema was telling Shane that he was outed, and making a spectacle of it so the entire coaching community would know. And I suspect that's why Spectrum-Shane had such a disproportional response to it.

I also suspect that was the reason for the 'tears' during his presser. Needs to look like the "in it for the kids" coach after putting every kid on the opposing cover squad in jeopardy in pursuit of a bit of field position.

UT - 35
Miami - 7

All the talk leading up to the game was if Miami would be voted National Champion if #1 Penn State lost in the Orange Bowl to #3 Oklahoma (which they did). They really didn't think the Vols had much of a chance against Miami

The Game: Miami scored first using a fake punt to set up a TD pass to future Hall of Famer Michael Irvin and everyone thought that was the beginning of the end for the Big Orange.

However, that was all Miami would score as the Vols brought the pressure of nine-man blitzes and never allowed Vinny to get into the game by sacking him seven times and picking him off three times. The Vols took advantage of those turnovers and good field position to roll over Miami 35-7.

The Big Play: 7:21 in the 3rd Quarter Tennessee RB Jeff Powell blasted through the line and ran 60 yards for a TD that put the Vols up 28-7 and was pretty much the nail in the coffin.

MVP: The UT Defense. They were just all over Testaverde the whole game, giving him nowhere to run or hide. They had a great defensive stand in the 1st Quarter as Miami started on their 13. After 11 plays, Miami ended back at their 13 yard line.

You ask many fans and it is one of their favorite games of all time and people were celebrating all though Tennessee. Fans were packed at the airport for the homecoming and honking horns at the bus as they drove back to the dorms.

I know it's weird...but this team and this game are and always will be my favorites. I can watch that game to this day and get goosebumps.

That game is really what set us on the path that ultimately led to the 98 NC.

“What the hell, let’s see what happens.”

Probably not the best time for an ideological shift, especially considering that we are going skiing next week 🤠

That was one of the best games I'd ever seen before our National Championship game in 98
