Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Australia already has 3 gold medals, and China has 2. We only have one gold medal. We must suck.
If you're looking towards the total medal race - us and China are the only real contenders in the end.

They really closed the gap in '08, '12, while overtaking Russia, but we took off again in '16 and '20.

Fwiw we're tied for 1st with Australia rn with 5.

I might be wrong and just overlooking guys (or maybe the area has just had a temporary dip in top talent) - but does it feel like we recruit the Memphis area like we used to?

Past coaches I can remember bringing in Memphis kids regularly. More recently, it feels like we've replaced it with more NC and GA kids.

Just an observation from someone that doesn't follow recruiting nearly as much as I used to...so I might be completely wrong. Nor is this in any way a knock, because I'm not a "in-state guys first" type either.

The early events are dominated mostly by other Countries. What I learned today is that the Chinese play Badminton 18 hours a day. Second Americans don't know Judo, they just stab people..

I love judo. If NBC wasn't so political maybe I would be able to watch more of the sports I want to watch in the Olympics

Today I watched an American win a ping pong game for the first time since Forrest Gump.

Also watched horses doing something at Versailles, handball, and water polo. The Olympics are the best combination of things I would otherwise never watch.

I watched rugby this afternoon. It was awesome.

I really like rugby but I've not seen a lot of 7 on 7 matches.

I watched some Women's Team Handball yesterday between France and Hungary .... it's an interesting sport.
