Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I wouldn’t want Hunter either. Dude is an athlete, and maybe I’m just missing something, but I don’t think he’s this stud everyone makes him out to be. And I absolutely don’t think he’s #1 pick worthy.
He's a excellent CB prospect. But he's a not top tier WR prospect.

IMO, if he was just a WR, he'd be a 2nd round WR or later. That's still pretty amazing that he can be that good at both, but he needs to be a primary CB at the next level and only be used like 5-10 snaps per game on offense.

@butchna

Read where your Bears are wanting to get Mike McCarthy for an interview for HC job.

BTW

Rex Ryan probably gets Jets job and Vrabel ends up in New England as HC..
😒 They’re casting a wide net…can only hope it’s subterfuge. Also interviewing David Shaw and the Arizona OC amongst others.

Why are you so impressed with AI?
It's an impressive technology. More than that, it's the future of humanity. It is arguably the most important creation in history and will change the lives of every person on the planet.

I'm more interested in knowing how it's gonna change things than I am impressed by it. Like it or not, it is the future. Get on the train or get left behind.

I don't agree. I've seen a lot of athleticism from Dalton in the NBA. Very fluid and drives well to the basket. He's definitely more than a 3 point shooter.
I didn't respond and try to disagree with him because seems like a fairly opinion-laced topic. But I definitely agree with you. Chaz is certainly athletic. But you can see his lack of quickness whenever we try to iso him. He obviously has phenomenal hands/hand-eye coordination to have such a quick release. But a full- scale evaluation of athleticism would lean towards Dalton IMO.

Olson has been good. Even this year, he finished the year on a absolute tear. While Freddie has been better than Olson for 2 of the last 3 years, Freddie showed some serious decline in his skills this year. His OPS and SLG% were the lowest they've been in 10 years, his average Exit Velocity was also tied for the lowest in his career since they started tracking EV. It's likely those numbers continue to decline this year. Father time is undefeated. It's a good bet that Olson is more valuable for the remainder of his contract than Freddie will be for his.

I had no issue losing Swanson. $177 million for a SS with mediocre offense isn't something a winning ball club does.

Also, we have churned out more stars than basically anyone else since 2018. Acuna, Riley, Contreras (even though he was traded, he still counts), Strider, Fried, Soroka (pre-injury), Harris, Scwellenbach, etc. And the Braves are currently projected to have the 3rd best record in baseball, before we've made even 1 significant off-season addition. We field an all-star level player at every position except SS and LF. So I don't know where you are getting the idea that the Braves have no stars.

Among current farm members, Baldwin looks like he could be a legitimate top tier bat and he's a top 50 overall prospect amongst the major ranking services. AJSS and Waldrep are high potential arms that are MLB ready too. They just drafted that Caminiti kid (nephew of the late great Ken Caminiti) who was arguably the top prep arm in last year's draft. Not to mention a host of other players that showed a lot of promise. The Farm is much better than you are giving them credit for. Especially considering that we seem to graduate a MLB All-Star worthy player every year that wasn't on anyone's radar the year prior.
What's frustrating is AA sitting on his thumbs, all, supposedly, in an attempt to get under the cap and reset the luxury tax. Braves still need a rotation arm, some bullpen help, OF help, and a SS.

I’d certainly be happy as hell if I were a Braves fan

Even if we don't add anything (which we will), the Braves still have a top 3 team in baseball. It could be a lot worse

I think we are stuck with Arcia for another season unfortunately. There just aren't any upgrades available. I guess Kim would be an upgrade, but he just had shoulder surgery.

I have no idea why we haven't upgraded other positions though.

Totally fair, I don't think the margin between the two is so wide one is clearly the right pick and the other isn't.

And saying I -think- Chaz is more athletic isn't me saying Dalton isn't athletic or just a 3 point shooter or anything.

having to watch Arcia flail around at every pitch for 6.5 months and hit like .203 with 200 strikeouts is gonna be f'n miserable

The USG and particularly DoD are fully on board the AI train. There'll still be a requirement for human management of the systems, but it can make complex tasks very simple, fast, and efficient with little to no error. The company I work for is one of the big defense contractors leading the charge on AI. Most people have misconceptions about AI thinking that it'll completely replace human decision making and involvement in processes. AI is simply a tool.

Yup.

An interesting SS prospect to watch though is John Gil. Elite speed, very good defense, walks a lot, power potential. Doesn't K much. He's only 19 though, so we won't see him this year though unless he turns into the best prospect in baseball.

I am anxious to purchase an AI robot that will fetch cold Modelos from the fridge. The living version beer fetcher stopped doing that years ago unfortunately.

Ha Seong-Kim is definitely an upgrade.

Side note- the dodgers just signed a Hye Seong-Kim.. lol
