Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I could be wrong since I'm not on the market and checking constantly lol
I thought the last I checked used prices had dropped the last few months. Could be wrong since I’m not on the market and checking constantly
Prices have leveled out a bit. Most of those insane prices were due to inventory issues. Manufacturers are keeping up with stock, demand has slipped but prices hvent gone back to normal in new car market.

Used cars seem to be about 5-10% more than compared to before Covid.

We paid $26K for our 15 Sienna, with garage kept 100K. Which I thought was a rape. We would prob pay $24K now.

But I could be wrong since im not on the market and checking constantly.

That Super Coupe is a classic imo. I love those cars. A lot faster than you'd think.

69 GTO is one of the best classics. Have you ever been to the "Pontiacs in Pigeon Forge" car show?
I haven't, but need to! The GTO needs a lot of work, before I'd feel comfortable driving it any distance. It looks great though!

I drove an '86 or '88 Lotus Esprit V8. Wicked little car. I imagine a Countach would drive about the same. I'd love to have an old Lotus Esprit. I think I like them mainly because it was the most affordable car that actually looked like a higher end supercar of the time.

Edit: actually, I cant remember if it was a V8 or a turbo.
Ive always wanted a Toyota Supra, for some odd reason. They looked wicked.

We've been psyched out by UF for so long. I really just want to leave their whole roster of coaches & players laying on the field bleeding after beating them by 100 in October to exorcise that demon. Our annual crapping of our own pants against them has got to stop. Pre-Spurrier they were historically irrelevant and we need to send them back to that purgatory!
We've won 50% over the past two years. That means the "annual" loss has actually, literally stopped.

Chris Wampler takes his old Star Chief restomod there every year. He said he has a little over $300k in it 👀, crazy.

There are a lot of GTOs, judges, judge replicas, firebirds, etc. Some of the old Bonneville's are the cooler cars there. I had forgotten how many models Pontiac made over the years.

For me it really depended on the value. For example, I bought my VW Golf brand new because used in the range I was looking for (2-3 years) was either about the same or just 1k or 2 less, in some cases slightly more, than what I was going to be able to purchase new for. I got mine close to the model year change at a high volume dealer outside of Atlanta. I was able to get mine for about 17.5 whereas the same car in Tennessee was running around 22-23k. If you are willing to drive or travel, it pays to look out of state.

Edit: Oh, another tip. Never buy the first model year. Often lots of kinks to work out. Not sure why that is. You would think they would test the crap out of them before realeasing them (that is mostly a rhetorical statement, pretty sure I know why).
This sounds exactly like the way I bought my CRV. Even down to buying from a dealership in Woodstock, GA.

I’m guessing it’s because you can reach base (walk) without it counting as an official at-bat.

Besides the car/truck losing value, what are some other reasons to buy used over new? Genuinely curious, im trying find the best option go go with
The fact that they are all insanely overprices. The fact that there is a new-auto bubble that is in the process of bursting as we type. The auto companies have an INSANE amount of back-stock on lots right now because no one is buying their overpriced products, yet the dealers can't negotiate lower prices to get rid of them. It's insane.

Remember back in '08 when people bought homes at inflated prices, and the market burst, leaving them in massive debt, with massive reverse-equity, and unable to sell their way out of it? That's basically what's happening in the 8-year-loan, $50,000+ auto market. (And I'm not talking about depreciation. I'm talking about a market bubble reset that'll be so much worse than the depreciation.)

Goodness don't take out a loan/buy a brand new car at that age. That 60k car loses $6,000 in value as soon as you drive it off the lot and then just continues to drop. I don't know why Americans want to spend so much on a terrible investment. I guess its because in our consumer culture if you have a $70,000 car and only $7,000 cash to your name people think you are doing well. But if you're driving a $7,000 vehicle with $70,000 cash in the bank people think you're bad off.

This is an interesting subject. Studies show that 80% of millionaires in America are first generation (not inherited). Of those, about 25% drive vehicles that are at least 6 years old. Of those, Honda and Toyota are the most common makes.

The takeaway is the average person is less likely to achieve a $1M+ net worth by driving brand new, expensive vehicles. High net worth individuals use the money for investments in appreciating assets and drive modest vehicles.

I see some nice vehicles on the road these days. People are willing to pay $1000+ per month to drive them. Maybe they make more income than me, or maybe they’re sacrificing the future for now. I dunno.

That e46 was meant to be a project for my son and I. He never took to it. I will say it is not an overly fast car, but a very fun car to drive fast. Best handling car I ever owned.

I had a Laguna Seca Blue E46 M3. Gorgeous car although it had been used as a track car so far from pristine. My neighbor's tree fell on it and it was totaled. That was a bad day.

I hope so. Let that bubble burst. My wife needs a new car in the next 6 months, I'd love to stroll into a dealership and "rescue them" from tons of overstock.

One reason for my trepidation regarding our offensive production this season is...I have never witnessed Nico have an elite game PASSING...while I have seen him make elite throws, but I've never seen him slice up a defense with his arm over and over and over again.

At this point it is all just POTENTIAL...the potential is awesome, but honestly I would feel a lot better about anointing this offense as a return to 22 form if he had thrown for 350 with 4-5 TDs against Iowa.

The potential for a top 10 offense is there...but that is all it is right now. I want to see a sharp-overpowering-electric passing game against UTC to put that trepidation to rest...hopefully it happens.

Honestly, the way Nico handled the bowl game gave me a ton of confidence, even though he didn't blow up the stat line.

Playing a team with a great defense, a poor offense, and having a banged up receiving corps he took exactly the right approach. He let the game come to him, made some plays with his feet, and didn't make any mistakes knowing Iowa wasn't going to drop 30 points on us. Such a mature performance for a freshman.

It's only 1 game though so you're right that it's all just potential at this point.

I bet you'll get your explosive game against UTC. I'll be surprised if he averages less than 10 yards per attempt in that game.

This all day. Buy a practical car and drive it until it dies. A car payment is such a waste of money, so the higher it is, the higher the waste. I see people complaining about the economy and inflation and being priced out of home ownership, but they have much nicer cars (and phones) than I have and they're always talking about the different shows they watch on all their different streaming services.
