Recruiting Football Talk VIII

We're recruiting the portal well...but man missing so much on these HS kids is tough.

24 class = 1 HS recruit, Bishop TBD
23 class = 3 HS recruits, Carr MISS, JP TBD, Cade looks solid
22 class = 5 HS recruits 0 with team now, Phillips and Awaka only 2 that contributed much while here (neither really a "hit")
21 class = 7 HS recruits 2 with team still, our last good class IMO. KC, Aidoo, Mashack and ZZ all contributors. BHH, Tamba, and Diboundje misses

16 HS recruits and only 4 are on the team and actively contributing right now. That's rough, I just hope JP can get healthy and finish his career strong like Fulky was able to.
With the portal era this will likely happen a lot(I’d imagine every school). Guys don’t wanna sit the bench and develop, and unless your a can’t miss blue chip chances are you aren’t playing much ur first season

Several Bru posts in multiple threads. My 2 cents (adjusted for inflation): Bru is a winner. Bru is a Role Model for being a great teammate. If Bru was more than 80 or 90 percent at any time this year I would be shocked. Wherever he is next year he'll be physically ahead of what he was this year. I'd take him back in a heartbeat even if only as a role player.

If Bru comes back it’ll be a godsend to Pope & the WR room even if he never played a snap.

You need mentors, 2022 was an offense full of older leadership players with experience in the system. That’s why they accomplished what they did.

Bru just isn’t the best fit for this offense… but he’s a very talented player and leader. Hope he returns

Another year, another lineup

27 I definitely would see rn, and 3 of them are bucket list artists. Have yet to even build the playlist for all artists, so it'll no doubt grow...and then I'll end up getting to see about half of them 😅

And seeing the top right-hand corner 👀 iykyk

For me, not as good of a lineup as in the past. Interesting to see Natasha Bedingfield listed as a 'lower tier' artist. Also, Glorilla and Gorillat? Can we have the Gorrilaz band instead?

Regardless of football acumen, Jerry knows how to run business. The NFL sued him after he signed stadium deals with Nike and Pepsi. The league had deals with Reebok and Coke. They settled, and he got to keep his deals and sign others. Other owners followed his lead. This has allowed other owners to create revenue streams they didn’t have.

The Cowboys have actually drafted well in the recent past. The issues have been head coach choices and some drama behind the scenes.
Yes, the Cowboys have had some very talented teams that have underperformed year after year. Last year's playoff exit. Oof.

Ughh. Just seeing that photo crushes me. Was over at her place playing poker the summer before it happened. Great girl, nice family. Never deserved to meet satan itself.

Believe her father is still doing local talks on how he's "getting over it"...I can't even...
I went to school with Channon. She was a year ahead of me. I didn't know her particularly well, but this story stuck and still sticks with me. Haunting, tragic, truly evil.

Yeah, difference is Barnes still largely recruits HS talent that needs developing. So when you invest a year or two and then they bolt it’s tough to overcome since it’s not like there are 5 stars waiting to play as freshmen like with other teams.

It's an odd one for sure, but feels similar to 2020(?) Or 2021 that either covid or the floodrains canceled, so I feel there's unfinished business there.

But 3 nights of King Gizz and the new 360 stage put it over the top for me. Justice is also a must-see, they rarely hit this close in their US tours.

That said, I've had your reaction a number of times since at least 2016...2017...probably just getting old 🤣

It seems to be working this year and last. Plug and play in the spots you need. What I think it will hurt is the depth. Last year we were fortunate to have as much depth as we did, normal years will likely be like this one

Some Auburn, AL based dbag taking shots at UT and coach. Screw him

We lost 2 regular season games and made the playoffs. WTF kind of hot garbage take is this, especially given that he name drops Auburn as being the metric of success in NIL recruiting…

@knoxvol52 Bears to interview Matt Campbell. Haven’t formed an opinion, myself…but thoughts?
I think he's a decent coach, we probably haven't seen his ceiling since recruiting to ISU is probably tough, so he's never had equal or superior talent.

That said, there's got to be coaches out there with a better coaching/program building/x&o resume?

All be about the interview. With all the ones scheduled, we should know who the guy is sometime in November.

It's not always the case, but I had a boss who believed you should have your mind mostly made up on a candidate based on their resume, and the interview is just to make sure they aren't a (insert explitive of choice here).

I sort of agree with that even more in football. You should know who you want based on their body of work and asking smart football people in the industry about their body of work, and the interview is just about personality fit. I think too many coaches get jobs from having an amazing interview skills but not an amazing resume.
