Recruiting Football Talk VIII

It’s funny that each generation is ultimately griping about their own ability as parents. Who’s ultimately responsible for teaching and training the next generation? Basically you’re saying I failed as a parent but it’s the lazy kids fault for not figuring it out on their own. The cycle continues.
It may actually have to do with developmental cycle. The Kruger-Dunning effect is a real thing. The less you know, the more you think you know. It's probably just human physiology more than the abilities or investments of the parents. The cure for the Kruger-Dunning effect generally comes as humility and a willingness to listen to others with more experience and wisdom. (Not blaming them.)

It's amazing how much smarter my parents got as I got older.

Pretty good, but could it be better? Perhaps that’s the point when they’re saying he does just the bare minimum. Imagine going full throttle, maybe we’d have 2-3 5*. Just a thought.
We could have had Douglas Utu, but apparently, he had a better relationship with the Oregon OL coach. I won't continue to beat a dead horse. I've made my feelings clear. I doubt Heupel makes a move this offseason. Next season may tell us a lot.

Do you know what a "Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II" is? I saw one today. The "Cale Yarborough Special". . . there are 2 kinds, the "Cale Yarborough Special" and the "Dan Gurney Special". They look like the same car at first glance, aside from the stripes (one has blue stripes, the other has red), but when you look closer you can see at least 1 difference. The front end on one is shorter. There are probably other differences, but that's the one I notice.

I don't think there are many original Cale Yarborough Specials left around today. I saw an original Dan Gurney Special about a year ago in Townsend. I didn't even realize what I was looking at til I got home and looked it up. Turns out that the Dan Gurney Special I was looking at is thought to be the only "survivor" Cyclone Spoiler II DGS that still exists.

You know I’ve seen a lot of posts from people sharing how much they achieved in 2024. But in case someone needs to hear this, it’s okay if the only thing you did this past year was just get through it.

Amen. There were years in the last decade when i buried 3 people from the half dozen that care about me most. Simply living through that, holding down the fort and continuing to be a good man to the wife and kids around me while I felt like a hollow shell of a man was much harder than any goal or accomplishment that I ever strived for. Sometimes just getting out of bed every morning, doing your job and taking care of those around you requires heroic effort when all you really want is to shut down.

Sometimes just getting through a year or a dark time is OK. When it seems like all the cards were stacked against you. I honestly don't know how people who don't have God in their lives get by. If I couldn't lean on Him sometimes, if I didnt have Hope that only comes from Him, I don't know if I would have made it through the last 5 years. Good post Doc. Thank you.

I’ve wondered if the average Joe thinks the playoff just stretches on for too long, and if playing at odd times makes people less likely to watch (midweek games).

I might like a tighter schedule and all Friday and Saturday games. Probably tough with so much college basketball.
100%, idk why the national championship and some of the better playoff games are on week nights, it makes no sense from a ratings standpoint

I personally think the playoffs went overboard with expansion. If anything, make it 10 teams tops. Sweet spot to me would be 8 teams no byes or 6 teams with 2 byes.

And older generations will always claim that younger generations are lazy, selfish, misguided, etc.

These cycles have gone on forever.
I believed this when I was younger. Now, unfortunately, I just believe it is because the new generations actually are worse than the ones before them going back 80 years.

The boomers were a markedly less competent generation than their parents. And I think that has basically trended downward from there at varying speeds.

And that is with no interest in playing the blame game. Obviously generations are raised by their parents in the culture built by their grandparents.

I work part time in a University setting. Three 18 year old freshman wanted to talk to me about politics, which is fine. Part way through that discussion I asked them to name as many US presidents they could think of, and the 3 of them came up with 6 names.

The rationalizations I've heard on why that doesn't mean anything and I'm just a crotchety old man now... I find them unconvincing. I'll put it that way.

Not a good look.

Don’t schedule it on Thursday. I never thought a semifinal would be mid-week. Didn’t know it was on until first half was over. Could have done both on friday one at 5 and one at 8. Or one at prime time friday and one on Saturday. They only had 2 nfl playoff games on Saturday so there’s room for one more game there.

Not for sure if this is a she or he but Belichick has to be questioning himself for taking that job

I would beat that kid up and shave his head if he walked in my locker room. Nothing personal just don’t want a “14 year old Justin beiber” wannabe leading my offense. Put the tik tok down and hit the gym.
