Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Whatever happened to Ryan Grubbs. Alabama media guys were for certain he was headed to Tuscaloosa after Seattle fired him.

Is he getting consideration for any NFL jobs?

Spent 20 years of my life being a bandwagon then hardcore Cowboys fan. I jumped on the bandwagon in high school before Tennessee had the Titans and the cowboys were winning and always on TV. Stuck with them until about 10 years ago.

I can honestly say - three super bowls aside - Jerry buying the cowboys is thr worst thing thing that ever could have happened to that franchise.

I used to think it was just him and his ego and his want for control and to put on a show/be flashy and that things would be better once they passed the team to his son. But Stephen Jones and the entire clan is all the same.

All they care about is flash more than substance. Being on Hard Knocks and selling merch. They’ll never be serious about football.

They broke my gaf about the NFL. Now, since my wife is from Michigan, I root for the Lions (she’s adopted the Vols as her favorite college team in trade) and I root for whoever is playing Dallas.

That’s awesome roof!..love can be a beautiful thing…I’m glad you found your Happiness…something to smile about later on down the road ya know

I'm still flabbergasted over the carrying the ball call on Igor. If the refs done their damn jobs right carrying the ball and walking would be called 50 times a game. All players are carrying the ball as they dribble , even worse in the NBA...
Yup.

I am not even talking about our Vols with this post - all games. It seems every game the officiating is so inconsistent. Every game the players and coaches on every team have to guess how the officials are going to call the rules of basketball. They totally ignore the 3 second call, until they don't. I have seen an explosion of lane violations on FT's they ignore until they don't. They call it loose for a physical team until they don't. They call it ticky tack on a quick team until they don't. They call hand checking wide open in the middle of the court, until they don't. They allow arm bars in the paint, until they don't. They call moving screens until they don't. They never call over the back on rebounds until they do. Then it all changes during the middle of the game or after half time.

The next thing you know they may add back time to the game clock for some arbitrary reason like soccer does because, well, because.

The officials called it differently in recent games of UF and Bama, both lost.

I cannot take basketball serious until March. Glad we are good and adapt so well during the season to win a lot of games. CRB deserves great credit for how the program has turned around and become a consistent winner. Which is why adapting to game conditions and playing defense well is so important. I just want to see him and them rewarded with a FF.

Happy Thursday

January 16, 2025: Issues that have been long standing will finally come to resolution, and you will feel like you are back in a familiar flow of life and spirit. There will be a sense of being able to breathe again in a place that is recognizable. Romans 15:13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Oklahoma should've just stayed in Big 12, they would be running that conference in football and at least above average basketball and baseball.

Don't have to attached at the hip with Texas to be successful, the Red River Rivalry would never be cancelled it could've been an OOC game for both.

Oklahoma was 2-6 in SEC football league play and now are 0-5 in league play in basketball. Good times for Oklahoma...
OTOH,

It’s certainly tiresome. I’ve dealt with it by using the ignore feature and that’s helped a bunch. I just don’t have the desire to argue with a wall. I hope most are just trolls because I can’t imagine being a fan of a team making me that negative and miserable. Sports are supposed to be fun, otherwise what is the point. If you want to be hurt and mad at the world take a hammer and smash your thumb.
What sucks for me is that a few of them are posters I've liked for years...folks that have usually been pretty level headed.

I want to win a NC in football and basketball, and I hate losing any game, in any way...but...what I hate worse and will never forget the pure despair of, is what we went through from 2005-2020.

I know we have weaknesses in the team and on the coaching staff...what I also know is that is really really tough to beat us now, and that goes for anybody but the most elite teams.

We are not doormats anymore...and I will never take that for granted again.

In essence...for me it's not "National Championship or bust"

Scoring defense: 2024 Vols #7
Army #5, Indiana #6

Total Defense : Indiana #2, Northern Illinois #4, Minnesota #5, UT #6

There you Proof, by your way,
Of ,
You decide:
1: Indiana, Northern Illinois, Minnesota, Army. Had better players
2: had a better DC

Which is it ? Got to be one right?
Because that #6 UT ranking is proof positive!!!

You love to throw that #6 around so what BS You got to say it means something for Ut but the others, nah!
I’ll wait 😂😂😂😂😂

So 4 DCs in the country are better than him? That’s pretty good he’s the 5th best DC!! You even had to dip into G5 to find a couple of them.

Fun fact: did you know that ARK finished ranked higher (10th in the country) in Total Offense than any team that IU, Northern Illinois, or Minnesota played?

Very well said.

I can't believe that in 2025 we're still using freaking total scoring and total defense to measure defenses in an era where pace and strength-of-schedule matter more than they ever have.

EPA / Play (SOS- + Pace-Adjusted)
1. Ohio State
2. Notre Dame
3. Tennessee (#1 against rush, #5 against the
4. Texas
5. Alabama
6. Oregon

ESPN Def. Efficiency
1. Notre Dame
2. Texas
3. Ohio State
4. Tennessee
5. Mississippi
6. Penn State

This was an elite defense on the likes of teams that had far superior talent (Ohio State, Alabama, Oregon, Texas, etc.) and the best we've had in a long, long time. We had some clear weaknesses that got exposed late (slow LB and S that struggled laterally in pass coverage), but that Banks put these numbers together with a flawed unit was an absolutely masterclass. So glad he's coming back.

By looking at #1/2 and #1/3, did the committee get it right?

That’s what you get from this.
Not surprising.
You would think so , I mean rankings and stats. Proves everything right? Or is they only matter if it fits your narrative? Yeah that’s its
