The idea for Tiger's league actually probably started earlier than LIV. The wheels came in motion around the same time.

Team play in golf does NOT make for a better product. I enjoy the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup, but those are both every two-year events and are a matter of representing your country. I detest other team golf events, like the Zurich Classic. I have ZERO interest in watching weekly team golf events.

I don’t mind team golf. I don’t watch LIV just bc it doesn’t feel like it matters. No tradition, no history. Doesn’t feel serious.

I recall being at the Greenbriar for a Banking Convention. Everyone was abuzz about the Liv Tournament asking 'will you be going?'

It just took a while to develop, but the ESPN story said that the key driver of TGL started back in 2016 during an Olympics. That was well before LIV.
