Recruiting Football Talk VIII

BCS rankings, 8 teams, all neutral sites. Done.
Yep. There aren’t 16 teams that could legitimately win a title in any given season. There’s maybe 6 or 8 and often not even that many. 8 is the sweet spot. Anything more is just chasing dollars (which is why it’ll keep growing).

The cognitive dissonance Ohio State fans are feeling today about Ryan Day has to be absolutely astounding.
It's ridiculous. Watched the game last night with a bunch of Ohio State fans and some of them still think Day should be fired because "he can't beat Michigan". Every one of them said they'd rather beat Michigan than win the championship.

I kinda respect that. It's part of the old school mentality of what college football was, when a national championship was amazing but was not really how the sport was organized or what it was really about.

16 too much. I think 12 too much. 6-8 imo, and I lean towards 6. Anyone ranked less than that is undeserving of a shot at the title.
I've been saying 8 teams the whole time. No bye weeks, no automatic qualifiers, and no committees (with active ADs/former players). Start the week after the conference championship games, have a 2 week break to prep for championship game, and get it over with earlier, ideally by the 2nd week of January.

There was no buzz for that game last night. They had 2 historic teams, with huge fan bases, and nobody really cared (outside of the schools involved). The regular season ended November 30th and the championship game was January 20th, that's over 7 weeks. You throw in NFL playoff games and NCAA college basketball conference games and most fans are ready to move on from college football for the year.

I had the game on but I wasn't focused on it. I was posting in the PF last night because the inauguration coverage was more interesting than the game was.

This is the first time in 25 years that UT has finished the season ranked inside the AP top-10.

Look I get it’s a moot point and they won a conference title and all that, but I’m sorry, ASU lost to a 8-5 Texas Tech team and a 5-7 Cincinnati team plus Texas. Meanwhile we lost to the SEC Champs and the national title champs, plus a 7-5 Arkansas team. Boise state I get, but I don’t think ASU should be ahead of us. Again, it’s a moot point and final Top 10 is a great place to be, but I still think it’s dumb.

Kind of reminiscent of the “we can’t do any worse than Fulmer” crowd. For him it was Florida. Lots of different potentials if you roll the dice. Could be a winner OR……..

Won’t know till you roll.

I’m going to be that guy: are we any different? Look at what Heupel and his group has done in 4 short years and there’s a very vocal minority calling for his head because we looked like 💩 against OSU and/or haven’t made splashy transfer portal gets. But unfortunately that minority has been heard a lot louder than the majority of us.

I honestly haven't heard anyone calling for Heupel's head. Then again, maybe my mind just auto-filters that stuff. I do look for some real change on the offensive side of the ball (whether that is staff changes or real scheme changes).

Go to the portal thread, man. There’s people in there talking like Heupel is a POS Coach who’s in over his head.

Oh no it’s the same for all major fan bases for sure. Just usually never get such a huge dichotomy where majority wanted to fire the guy 4 weeks ago and then they win the natty.

Forces literally hundreds of thousands of people to question “was I being wrong and emotional and reactionary? Do I maybe not know as much about football as I thought?”

And of course… the answer for 99% of those people is no. They will have learned nothing.

Still funny though
