Recruiting Football Talk VIII

He's a good manager in that he picked his OC/DC. Cannot be trusted to navigate an occupied golf cart though.
Yeah, he's a Dabo, but less goofy and a little more angry/chip-on-the-shoulder type. I guess not mismanaging what he's in control of is a feat in and of itself. Seems plenty of coaches can't even do that. But I can't picture him building a program from the ground up.

And honestly, that's an interesting comparison. Because I think there are coaches who are good at that but not managing it well once it's built, and vice versa. Only a small number of them can build and successfully manage what they've created for years and years.

Great perspective to take, as I didn’t really consider that. My one worry with Heupel is does he fall in the category of program builder but not manager, or can he do both? He’s done an incredible job and I’m a “do whatever it takes to keep him” guy. But that being said, one of the crucial facts that separates the two is being able to get rid of the waste, regardless of ties the coach may have with his assistants. So far that’s been the one negative I have on Heupel.

Edit: I also agree with you that Day isn’t a program builder. The guy walked into the perfect situation and hasn’t done anything to hurt that or grow it, he’s just maintained it.

I mean what do you see that makes us a Top 10 team aside from a stellar QB who honestly still has his issues?
Now that we can put our first round playoff game in the proper context, I'm struggling to find 10 other teams that I believe are going to be hands down more talented, experienced and accomplished than what we put on the field. That doesn't mean I don't think we have work to do to get where OSU is today, but regardless of what we need from coaches or players to clear the last hurdle, who is in a clearly better situation?

I can see the arguments for OSU, UGA, Oregon, TX; maybe ND, PSU and even Bama (given their roster). But after that group we have just as legitmate claim on a 7-12 ranking as anyone else in CFB. I just don't see 10 juggernauts out there that make top 10 status a stretch for UT if we develop and execute.

Well while many sit and ring their hands on whether Carnell Tate leave OSU and come to TENNESSEE.

I will be getting ready to watch the #6 ranked Vols vs #14 Ranked Mississippi State at Food Center Center tonight at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN 2....
It’s hilarious to see people thinking Tate is coming here 😂😂😂😂

The snow in the Florida panhandle has started…. Supposed to last until 7pm. Insane

I’d love to be in Destin just to see the snow on the palm trees, the roads, and all throughout the town. That’s a once in a lifetime event.

2-4 inches expected…

please do not let Nick Saban get anywhere near making decisions about college football

Add the years of being at UA and he's made $93 million and Saban is a no doubt, Gump 4 life

Any decisions he'd make would be to alabama's benefit. Much like Warde Manuel heading the CFP committee.... impartial, unbiased, and fair is not in their vocabulary.

I mean, I dont like it, but I get it. We’re losing our top rusher, 4/5 starters from an already meh OL, losing our -statistically- top wr’s, all-sec cb tore his acl, losing our best players on the DL…we have a lot of ?’s for next year
You’re one of them aren’t you…

Jk, when you put it like that sounds like we’ve got an 8-4 incoming. Fighting the BVS… I believe! Back to back playoffs here we come!

I'm still not convinced that Ryan Day is actually a good coach.
He has great players and a good coaching staff. That's like 95% of college coaching. He probably isn't some Xs and Os savant, but he doesn't need to be. The vast majority of college head coaches are not.

I don't care if he inherited a great situation from Urban, or if they don't play a gauntlet schedule every year. You don't go 70-10 (46-5) in 6+ seasons if you're a bad coach. Every single one of those 10 losses except the loss to Michigan this year was to another great team.

Just left there Sunday. They were equally thrilled and horrified haha.
Exactly lol. They salted some roads and bridges yesterday but have issued plenty of warnings telling nobody to drive until Thursday and that bridges will shut down if it snows bad. Also been telling people the power could go out and to be prepared for that

Other than that pretty excited to see this once in a lifetime winter storm
