Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I've read it before because I remember laughing thinking "I'm sure the million dollar coach that's going to be on the hot seat now is really enjoying the added "character to the game caused by that missed call" 😅

But, more broadly, there is a lot of resistance to other, non-human, solutions. Many think you simply need to throw more money and more hours at college refs and they'll suddenly become...what? awful NFL refs?? 🤣🤣🤣

The whole notion that any human being has the sensory ability to accurately referree high-level sporting events is complete myth. At least not anywhere near the level that will be considered acceptable by coaches, players, fans. And now we finally have an "out"...and some still resort to "jUsT MakE ThE ReFs FuLL-tImE".
The full time argument is truly one of the dumbest. Public accountability and better technology are the two primary ways officiating could improve, especially in football.

I do think there's a grain of truth that some penalties will always need a human judgment call, but spotting the ball is not one of those. Same with false start/offside, should never be left to judgment who went first.

I agree, there is very low hanging fruit. Ball spots are horrendous, for example.

Otoh, some other calls will have to come with time. But you can exercise machine learning on a vision system to teach what is the right/wrong call over thousands of instances. Once it can easily surpass human ref success rate, you implement it. Then keep moving down the line of difficulty.

Lays Potato Chips recall in Washington and Oregon. High death risk due to "undeclared milk".🤷

Of course if I knew what undeclared milk is I would understand it a little better.

Nevermind I googled the answer.

So funny story at work today..I was minding my own business as it was break time..This UGA fan was sitting in one of the booths in the deli area chatting with another co worker. They were discussing UT sports mainly the Lady Vols..He said hey (my name), Lady Vols colors are prettier than that gaudy UT orange..I said to him “UT orange is way better than that gaudy red and black you like.” He just laughed and got quiet..🤣🤣Stupid leg humper fans!!🙄Hope we beat them by 50 Fiddy in Neyland this year!!

Something definitely feels off about the way Barnes has handled this team during its struggles.

We saw some clear adjustments in the Vanderbilt game that got us back in it. But since then it just feels like we are beating a dead horse and hoping for a good outcome doing the same things the same way.

Barnes forgot more basketball than I'll ever know. And he's said some of the things I know would improve us..... But we aren't implementing them...... There has to be reason, he's not lazy, nor incompetent........ Something's off.
I think the biggest thing that's different than the last several is there lack of depth.

We've got 7-8 guys... Where we're used to 10-11.

In no universe is bishop Boswell getting minutes in years past...

And no impact freshman.

I'm not overly concerned but I do think that limits us and could be what keeps us from a deep run.

Anyway..I ain't mad. When this team plays well we can beat anyone. When we play like poop we still can play with anyone not named Florida...

And there's still a ton of opportunisties to build the resume.
