I do think it's legitimate to critique Barnes for allowing his players to shoot themselves into a loss.
I really don't care that they are open and I disagree with the belief that you should keep shooting them if they are open.
The players are in their heads, they don't have confidence and they WILL NOT shoot themselves out of it. It literally never happens. If we are cold, we are cold and it does not change during a game ever. Basketball is a momentum sport. You HAVE to go inside when you're not hitting 3's. Especially not 45 of them. It's dumb. Run some pick and rolls, maybe some flex actions to get guys looks inside and get them into a rhythm.
But every coach has some philosophies that just don't work and they won't budge. Allowing them to keep shooting and refusinf to call timeouts when the other team makes a run are his vices. We are still in the greatest era of Tennessee basketball and we can't really complain though. We will turn it around and we will go on a tournament run.
As a football school, I'm taking that all day.
This logic is as faulty as people critiquing our football team at times as if they are playing 7v7.
UK had a say in what UT basketball could do offensively. It is not as if UT basketball is playing against air. If UK, or any other team, packs the lane and dares the Vols to shoot behind the arch, there is only one solution to break them of that defense. We were obviously incapable of executing that solution at the moment.
