Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Hi VN fam. I’ve been less active than normal lately. I love VN and while I don’t post a lot, I’m usually active in reading the board and “liking” posts.

We live in the mid-state. My wife and I have a 4 year old boy. We just had a second boy in early January (which I proudly posted about a month ago - and I thank you all for the likes and well wishes associated to that post). Wife and kids are doing great.

However… to get to the heart of this post… I have a lump on my skull (on the bone) that has come about very randomly and fairly abruptly. Since the arrival of our son in January, I’ve had several appointments in rapid succession including X-ray and full head/skull MRI. MRI showed all soft tissue to be in good shape and normal/healthy (no brain tumors - which is obviously great news). However, I have a “Full Body Nuclear Bone Scan” later this week and a meeting with Tennessee Oncology next week. There is a chance this is a benign bone tumor. There is also apparently plausible concern this is a rare metastasized bone cancer (I am hopeful as I feel healthy otherwise - I exercise regularly and have no other noticeable issues with my body).

Asking you all for positive thoughts and prayers over the next week or two as my family gains clarity on this. Not as much for me in the sense that it’s all about me… but more-so from the perspective of how this could impact my sons. Young kids need their parents.

I am a believer and Daniel 3:16-18 comes to mind right now. We are called to have an “Even if…” faith. When we are thrown into the furnace, we know God can deliver us. But “even if…” He is still God. And God is good, even when it’s beyond our understanding.

We remain positive and encouraged. But praying for a benign situation and many more years of VN activity. Asking you all for the same.

Anyone else deal with back pain? About once a year I’ll just randomly have my back lock up with pretty bad pain and can’t do anything. Goes away on its own after a couple days

Is it worth going to the hospital for it?
Depends on how bad it's hurting, I guess. . . unless you're just trying to find out what causes it. I'm not really sure what they would give you to stop the pain.

A chiropractor might be the thing to do. That's what helps me out. I go every 3-4 years when I start hurting real bad in back. I have arthritis from an old injury. I also do back and hip stretches when it flares up.

Where is the pain?

I used to have huge painful knots underneath my shoulder blades pretty much all the time. Was foam-rolling and rolling on a lacrosse ball multiple times per day to try and get any form of relief.

But I stopped getting them after just a couple of months of going to the gym 3-4x per week. Because of that I go pretty hard on back exercises to keep the pain from coming back. Low cable rows, T-bar rows, bent-over rows, etc. I still get those knots occasionally but they go away pretty quickly now.

A little bit of both… the first time it happened was the worst pain I’ve experienced. But now I’m used to it so it’s somewhat tolerable, just can’t move

Pretty much the same for me. Stretching is vastly important but I’m terrible about doing it.

Congrats to Andy. The real one. Not the school.
