Recruiting Football Talk VIII

HS WR’s Pope recruited and signed:
‘23 4 star Nathan Leacock (1 catch 13 yards)
‘23 3 star Nate Spillman (no career stats)
‘24 5 star Mike Matthews ( 7 catches 90 yards 2 td’s)
‘24 4 star Braylon Stayley ( 3 catches 21 yards)

Kodi Burns mostly recruited the ‘22 guys, which they regressed each year anyway.

Our transfer WR’s never made significant leaps either. Bru gets the benefit of a doubt with his injury, Thornton had potential but couldn’t stay healthy

Pope has proven he can’t recruit or develop. I think we need to get rid of him asap
Kelsey Pope was the WR coach in 2022 when Hyatt blew up. He was also Bru’s first and only WR coach at UT and Squirel’s coach as a freshman when he started.

We can discuss it all, but let’s at least get on the same page as to the facts.

Hey enki check out these 2 I caught yesterday on a bomber A, they're over a pound now. Fingers crossed they go on the bed this year. I was amazed at how healthy they are.
Just a friendly tip after they get to around 1.5lb and bigger try to hold them straight up and down like you are in the second pic if you hold them like the first pick when they get bigger it can dislocate their bottom jaw and they want be able to survive and the thing is you want even notice or know it has been dislocated. Those are some healthy looking fish though .

I appreciate that bud, I never knew that. Gonna have to tell my son about that too.

Almost time for a great reset. . .

Now merge those two together and stick one of those organoid computers in there. . .
Things are going to get very different very soon.

Do you troll with a bunch of rods off the back of the boat or bank fish for them?
We were fishing off the bank with minnows. I normally don't do much trolling. I do have this ditch full of stumps where we bass fish that is about 6 foot deep that we usually troll over with DT4s that we always catch bass over. It's kind of weird, stumps and hydrilla that they lay in and ambush anything that comes thru. We'll throw on it and catch a few then they'll stop, but then we troll over it and it's like they turn on again. Strangest thing I ever seen, I can't explain it.

We used to go to Lowe's after Christmas and get their trees. They'd let us have as many as we could take. We'd take them out on douglas, dump them and mark the spots. My buddy always liked trolling. I didnt really care too much for it. I like boats, but I'm just as happy or more on a bank.

Here's from the last time we went.

Now that's a mess, that's what I'm talking about. I've never been able to put my son on them when they're biting like that. We kind of forgot about the 30 fish limit one night and caught and cleaned 100 plus crappie. I don't think my son believes me when I tell him that.

I think we probably broke a few laws that day, 😂

We had like 5 poles on each side of the boat. We were only out there 2-3 hours. Almost too hectic for me. Non stop reeling, casting, measuring, unhooking, etc. I'm good with catching 1-2 bass and hour. . .

Yeah me too, my son would have sure enough mess with all them rods in the water. No thank you, I am just as content fishing with minnows off the bank with 2 rods a piece. If they're biting you can't hardly fish with anymore than that anyway.
