Preseason rankings is like a blind monkey throwing poop at the wall. It never seems to stick.

Crazy, but it's actually been shown to be very predictive (relative, of course) according to data scientists. Better than Vegas preseason. Shocking tbh

But the slope is strong. Top 5 are easy money for the most part. 6-10 strong. 10-15 decent. 16-20 pretty random, and so on.

But, to your point, if one is expecting 80% of all top 25 preseason teams to finish in the top 25, and the other 107 teams to only infiltrate the top 25 with 4 or 5 teams, sure, that ain't happening. Sports and all.
