When you're paid the money he's being paid and the defense was better last year with the same players basically(outside of Malik Jackson and Austin Johnson good players). There are no excuses. He can't produce an average unit. Then Sal is from the "Saban tree" with this big rep he's supposed to be treated like this.

AND, his units are dead last.

it is a pretty easy argument to make that this year's defensive talent is considerably better than last year's

add dmccullers and sentimore - 1 year of progression on everyone else - lose only 1 real playmaker on dline

LB's - bring back 2 best ones - bring back the one that would turn into jack - year of progression on those - swap a converted fullback for Hlathers

Secondary - return everyone basically w/ year of development and add in some talented freshman

yet Sal has been WAY worse than last year - 22.6 a game vs 33.9 - 450 yds per game vs 340

I love how Dooley got a 2 year pass on talent and Sunseri gets taken to the woodshed. I'm not saying either are great coaches, but the irony is thick. Hypocrisy all around.

i don't think people on here and definitely not over the last few pages have given DD a pass on talent - definitely not on recruiting defensive talent - but Sal's talent is certainly not 99th in the country bad - Wilcox was 37th w/equivalent to worse talent last year

EDIT...If we were 37th this year itd be 10 less points a game - with as many close games as we have had this is huge

I agree on all these but LB. I'd trade Lathers for Austin Johnson at LB anyday personally.

It's a complete scheme change. That offsets most all of that "progression". He's done a VERY poor job. Not questioning that. But There have been glimpses of solid D and I personally think that if he is given another year you would see major improvement. Not that I'm on board for another year of mediocrity.

at college level though guys get bigger, stronger, faster, more mature (hopefully) regardless of scheme changes so you would think they would still progress a bit - glimpses have been there - but glimpses just arent enough - the D wasnt great last year and Sal is over 60 spots worse

if he were even top 40-50 or if they were getting better as the season progressed i could be okay with keeping him but that isnt happening - we made conner shaw look like peyton manning in game 8 - every team since Ga state, 6 straight weeks has torched this D - even a 1 win Akron team scored on this D

We made Tyler Russell look like an NFL starter.

UT paid 800,000 to an Outside LB coach. They can only blame themselves for putting that much stock into a unproven DC.

He has a big rep from the Saban tree as an OLB coach, that is all. He has been a LB coach for 3 different programs under Saban and still didnt get promoted to DC. That should have been a red flag for UT from the beginning.

Saban endorsed Dooley and Sal. Two red flags IMO. :)

FWIW, Basilio is talking in absolutes again, and he's saying CDD is done. It's already a done deal, and he's being allowed to stick around for the rest of the season so all of the attention doesn't turn to the coaching search.

IMO, I don't believe a freaking thing this guy says, but there it is. Can of worms.

Man I hate that. I know it's a catch 22 situation, oh hell, I think I'll just let everybody over in the "other" thread fret about it.

Deerpark has a quote in the Gruden cliff notes thread saying if Dooley somehow gets another year it's because of Cheek. Says Hart's mind has long been made up.

LWSVOL says Cheek will not have a say in decision.

OCI said an offer for gruden was already on the table. Lol.

Many people are saying that, not just OCI. Many are also saying he's already agreed to be the next UT HC. We'll find out if they're right soon...

I just find it hard to believe there's already an offer on the table when we still have a head coach. Nothing against oci..I've though he's been legit for a while. It's just hard for me to believe gruden will be here nex year.

I have no idea when exactly but if they plan on firing CDD and hiring a new HC I would think somewhere between now and 6 weeks would be about right, yes. You have an exact date in mind?

If we have to wait 6 weeks to get Gruden it's worth it.

He could pull in a better recruiting class than Dooley has in little more than a month.

Firing your current HC before finding out who's seriously interested in replacing him probably isn't what happens most of the time. And again, OCI isn't the only one saying Gruden is going to replace Dooley. I agree, it isn't easy to believe Gruden will be the next coach. I'm just saying many folks are saying they've heard from other folks it's a done deal or at least very close to being done.

I'm reserving my excitement until I see Hart introduce Gruden, I'll believe it when I see it. We'll find out soon if Dooley stays, goes and if so, who's his replacement. I'm ready to get it over with, wish they'd announce his replacement ASAP if they're going to do so. JMO
