UT paid 800,000 to an Outside LB coach. They can only blame themselves for putting that much stock into a unproven DC.

He has a big rep from the Saban tree as an OLB coach, that is all. He has been a LB coach for 3 different programs under Saban and still didnt get promoted to DC. That should have been a red flag for UT from the beginning.

This, this, this! And our exuberance over the hiring was irrationale from day 1

Wish he would sign with my Packers when his contract is up. Would be a great fit.

Is Woodson out the whole year? But Tremaine Williams is legit also. I remember when he shut down Calvin Johnson last year. Very physical, good with his hands, superb body control, and the best thing... his ball skills. He seemed to get a pick almost every week.

Thanks to him and Woodson picking balls off left and right and Clay Matthews getting his 2 sacks per game, needless to say my fantasy defense was top notch :)

That's what she said!:)

Gruden is an NFL guy. He knows the NFL. He has a cushy MNF gig making millions. He has staff doing research for him and he loves to talk about the NFL. He does not have to nursemaid 17-20 year olds, kiss up to the parents, listen to a nutty fanbase, or worry about beating 6 top 10 teams. That's where he is coming from.

From UT's point of view, they would have to pay Gruden $7-8M, risk him bolting to the NFL or back to MNF, another $2m for his staff, and $9m to buy out the current staff. It will take around $20M to get him.

I don't believe it is a good deal for either party. Tampa Bay fans will tell you that he ran that program in the ground. These are the facts fans. He might pull in a good recruiting class, but he would be gone in a couple of years and we start over again.

Sorry, it ain't gonna happen.

while it's impossible to tell because Gruden isn't publicly saying anything specific in regards to the Tennessee job, he does seem to have legitimate interest in the job and there are those close to Gruden who continue to believe that if a change is made and Tennessee has a competitive offer sheet (read: greater than $5 million), it might be too much for Gruden to pass up. There are others who know Gruden who don't think he would come to the college game. And others who believe if somehow he did end up at Tennessee, then his staff would have a Vol feel to it.

Apparently Hubbs stated that Lanier would have been eligible at all SEC schools except for Tennessee this year since they all accept C- and D transfer credits but we do not.

Look for a bunch of Daniel Gray this week at corner. Gray has worked first-team all week ahead of Prentiss Waggner, who hasn't had a tackle in the last two games. Also in the secondary, don't be surprised to see Rod Wilks play some at safety. Wilks got a little playing time on Saturday at South Carolina and got some first team reps on Monday and Tuesday while Byron Moore battled a sinus infection. Wilks earned praise from defensive coordinator Sal Sunseri for the way he practiced both days.

Do not look for Trent Taylor to even dress out. Taylor is unquestionably at odds with the powers-that-be in the program, and it appears that Taylor has allowed an apparent redshirt year to most definitely impact him on the practice field and in the classroom. While there are no real roster limits for how many players can dress for a non-conference game, we don't expect Taylor in his No. 99 jersey will be among those in orange on Saturday afternoon.

I read on VQ that Trent Taylor is now having some issues in terms of his attitude. I was surprised by that. Anyone know any details? Everything I had read up to this point made me think he was a good, hard-working kid that may play a role for us sooner rather than later. Now it sounds like he may not even dress out for tomorrow's game.

For those without a VQ sub. Taylor is having difficulty dealing with the RS. He's not happy about not playing and he's letting it reflect in his attitude, practice effort, and his preparation each week. I guess that's something else to monitor.

He seems to be taking the red-shirt as a slight on him. I can understand a competitive person wanting to be out on the field, but he needs to understand this would be the best move for his development. All you have to do to help him understand is show him a list of players who red-shirted in the past that went on to have highly productive college careers and some that made it to the pros.

I completely agree. He needed the RS to really focus on the weight room. His strength level needed improvement but he won't get that unless he commits to doing the work.

Hate to hear the news on Taylor.

Sometimes it takes kids a year or two to come around. Shoot, sometimes the lights don't come on until they are a senior.

I'm not trying to stir anything here but Marion Hobby's name is starting to float around as an assistant coach that may be interested in UT. He is the current CO-DC and DL coach. Former DE for UT in college from (1986-1989).
