Something that I think can’t be restated enough is how our team came banged up and tired into the game while UK had a bye to rest and recover.

Not only that, but in the game UK possessed the ball for a ridiculous 42 minutes, and ran the damn thing 64 times. Our defense played well but was GASSED.

DESPITE THAT

In clutch time, with 4th and goal from the 1 when our guys were running on fumes, Warrior made the right play to force Bowden inside where he was swarmed by Bituli and a host of volunteers. That is f***ing effort. That is f***ing Tennessee football.

(As an aside, when looking at how little we possessed the ball, the offense was actually pretty alright too- 17 points in 17 minutes)

Can JG be trusted to start now? I’m convinced it’s a mental issue for him. When he sees the team struggling and comes off the bench, there’s less pressure on him and plays more instinctively. When he’s the starter he feels like he has to “manage” the game which leads to bad decisions.

IMO they gotta start Maurer again against Mizzou. If he can’t get it done go to JG again. For whatever reason that’s the key to getting him to play well.

No idea as to the answers, nor do I think anyone really does. But I think you've nailed how being "the 6th man" clears his head so he can just go play.

The coaches seem to just flip a coin and go with it at times. Sort of like a bball coach rotating guys to "find the hot hand". Not sure I understand the reasoning all the time, but I digress. All I know is we've won 4 games now doing it, and 3 of those we were the underdog or 50/50 at best. And if we do drop 1 down the stretch, people will probably blame it on "gross mismanagement" or whatever and forget to balance it with how well it's been working out.

But hopefully we just cruise the rest of the way and there's no drama...but does that ever happen at UT?

So, who all is ready to jump on the #WINOUT train?! Let’s go!!! These boys won’t let adversity give them a loss anymore. Pruitt and his staff have erased the loser mentality and made them have a winning mentality.
I told you last night your train smells bad and needs to be disinfected. I think your train was the previous livestock car.

I am going to be that guy this morning and challenge all of the JG haters to show some character and apologize. There have been some horrible things said about him, and I have also said things I should not have. So, I apologize and retract them. There is no way that you are going to convince me that he does not bleed orange with every fiber of his being. He played terrific last night. I don't want to hear any more garbage about how his passes don't travel very far or that he just throws jump balls. He puts those jump balls right where he is supposed to. Not only that, but he ran for two huge first downs, one on a scramble. I don't think we win if he doesn't play last night. I know it was an ugly 4 point win over Kentucky, but getting to a bowl game is critical for this team. Thank you Broadway Joe. I know many of you have already spoke up for him and that shows that you can stand up and own that you may have been wrong. I am also going to tag @BruinVol because I recall him having JG's back when almost no one else did. I love this team and the culture change that is happening right in front of our eyes. #winout GBO!

Love it

Dude please @ me next time..don’t be a B*tch you are praising a 3rd year Jr QB that should have been doing this Sh*t all along....it’s what is expected from him,he earned my respect tonight but it’s still Kentucky...the fact y’all are still taking away from Shrout and Maurer for the games they won by themselves that JG couldn’t says a lot,it’s not been just “all” JG..you can have your moment of glory.
Name one game that Shrout and Maurer won by themselves. I will wait. JG has had a different offensive coordinator every year that he has been here. That is a difficult thing to overcome. Additionally, he is really hard on himself which is another thing that is difficult to overcome. Have you no compassion? Is it not enough for you to see a kid overcome adversity? Would you treat your son/daughter like this if they were going through a tough time in sports?

Agreed.

And then we can all start bemoaning the fact we should be 9-3.

Can't wait.

If we reach the record I thought we should, not gonna waste my time fit pitching how we got there.
Crazy and stupid things happen in CFB and I just want to come out in the plus column for a change.

Guys and Gals what an amazing night! My first road game and took my 8 year old daughter. We had awesome seats! We were in the UT section in the first row! After the game the players came over. Brian Maurer, Quavarious Crouch, and Theo Jackson all gave my daughter gloves and towels! We walked out of Kroger with a win AND and 8 y/o who will NEVER forget this experience with our Vols! She hugged me while we were waiting for our Uber and said "Best day ever dad. Thank you so much". I love our program. Several others around us were all cheering and hugging after the stop on 4th down. I really think we turned a corner tonight. As a team, as a staff, and as a fanbase! It's great to be a Tennessee Vol!
It doesn't get any better than this!!

I would prefer he continue coming off the bench as he seems to play better. I thought it was interesting in his post-game comment to Cubelic that he said his teammates call him the '6th Mn', because I had been thinking he reminded me of Jordan Bowden last season, or Lamonte the season before, who both seemed to play better coming off the bench, and both seemed to provide that instant spark when they did. Being an ex-baseball player, and therefore highly superstitious when it comes to rituals, I would say don't change what is working. Plus, I think Maurer still needs the opportunity to develop.

Respect for our D - held Bowden to 4.4 ypc, nearly half of his previous average of 8.0. Their RBs did get us pretty well, but ultimately we kept Bowden from snapping off long TD runs and made them chip away inside the 40 and they just couldn't do it against us after the first 2 drives.
And that second drive was only 22 yards.

For the love of god Knoxville sports radio.

Streaming this morning and Tyler Ivens:

“Mike Evans is really underrated, not a sexy stat guy but he needs to be in the top 5 WR convo”

Mike Evans is currently leading the NFL in catches and touchdowns and 2nd in yards.
Yikes
