Shelter said 2 different reasons.
1. People are looking for unique color patterns if a dog isn't a pure breed.
2. The horror movie effect. Black cats, dogs, bats, etc.. irrational, subconscious belief they're more likely to turn.

But like you, I love them.

We had a black lab/greyhound mix we got from the shelter. She was not the sharpest tool in the shed, but she was my favorite. Very playful and loving. She would play until you got tired.

But honestly, given some things I've witnessed, I'm starting to question is she's actually smart enough to play dumb.

Amazing how her goofiness seems to always end up benefiting her in one way or another. That's even how she got out of a shelter and in a cozy home.
