The only other option I like is something like all power 5 conference champs, and one at large. Giving 1 and 2 a bye. With two playing the higher seed. Let the first round match be at home for the higher ranked team and then have your final and semi final teams meet at a neutral site so that way those places can get their games. This would also allow ND to stay independent because they could go undefeated or have 1 loss and make it if they were the highest ranked of the rest. Also it would give an advantage to teams who go undefeated, in the regular season as they could earn a bye, so it would make even game matter. Like now LSU and Ohio St would have the advantage, but it would give a reason for Clemson per say to schedule a tough OOC game because then they could jump one of those two with a higher SOS having played somebodyI like the way you think with this. Maybe it would push to an eight team playoff that I’ve wanted from the beginning. The 5th team will always have a good argument why they should be in, the 9th team not so much
