But Ignont’s voluntarily vacated scholarship wouldn’t be an INITIAL counter. Forget the other transfers but theirs wouldn’t be either. I think the unanticipated lack of transfers BEFORE the season caused some complications but this was always the plan with Solomon and Montgomery. Can’t land many legit players this route but they landed two. We’ll be able to sign 25 in each class for the foreseeable future. This is just all about replacing counters. 1 is taken off the rolls, 1 is added. The only rule getting around 25 limit is the 1 year rule or injury/illness.
If these dealt with ICs, there would be a corresponding rule about the signees limit, otherwise it doesn't really get around the annual limit.
I am a very proud orange glasses guy. I love every single one of our signees. They have committed to being here for the next 3-5 years to sweat and work to make themselves better players and people and to make my university a better place. While I wish that they all would grow and develop into fantastic football players, in the end, that does not matter to me. They are Vols. They want to be here. I will be forever grateful to them. They contribute in many ways, even if they are unable to get on the field on Saturdays. If they leave for greener pastures, then I appreciate what they did while they were here. Some of them get hurt. Some of them get in trouble. I am still appreciative about the folks who get in trouble as long as they are not hurting anyone else. If they fail some drug tests and get kicked off the team, I am still glad that they came here and contributed what they did. These are life-changing decisions for the most part, and these kids are making the same one that I did. I did not play football, of course, but I chose to attend the University of Tennessee. They are kindred spirits. We should all appreciate them. Thank you for your time and attention.
Solistened tot he VQ podcast today. couple things i thought that were interesting....the Kaho kid has moved way up the board apparently, staff really likes him a lot.
the staff is gonna have to work to hold on to Butler and Calloway...others will/are gonna come calling....they don't see anyone right now that the staff would give the git shirt to.....
LW is going to be given the opportunity to be a RB if he comes here, and b/c of that, they seem to think we lead with him....said usce dropped the ball here.
Tisdol is apparently holding out for a committable Auburn offer, his dream school. so we're going after him knowing we're playing a bit of a game here.....but they like him a lot too.
said that we're not giving up on Hardy or Ojulari. in the case of Hardy, too much invested to roll over..."gonna make Auburn earn it"...not quite the same tone for Ojulari, but they really like him and are still trying. i don't think they felt too confident on flipping either of them. did say there were still some scenarios with Ojulari that could work in our favor, like if Gilbert flipped to Bama, who is still trying hard with him, or if LSU got Philip Webb, would that push BJ out? lots of speculation, none of it sounded awfully good for our chances....but......it's recruiting. ish happens.
RB is a need, but they feel LW could address that, and if so, that means Hodge and LW would be it.
still need DL, WR and OL....still feel good about Baron, Thomas and Oxendine.....they're less concerned about WR because of how well Gibbs has done this year in that position on the scout team. no mention of Jarrett....did seem to think that if Jones Bell wants in, he's in....but that's another flip hopeful.....they like Banks as well from Olive Branch, but again, another flip candidate....
spots are getting tight, and things are heating up supposedly and they look for the Vandy game to be a realtively big weekend for visits.....
Darnell Washington seems to be between us, bama and ga...and he has a spot no matter what if we wants in....
speculation that we finish between 12 and 15. IF a couple bigger fish jump back in or get in, said they could see us sneak in to the top 10...but that's not as likely as it may have been over the summer.
Sewell...well...he got mentioned...but that was it. seems that ship may have already sailed.
Darrin Turner...nothing there...
seemed to allude to the notion that the potential of finishing 8-5...and get a big win early next year (ou and/or uf??) could translate in to next year's cycle being the "splash" class....tifiwiw....we're a long way out on that obviously.
no mention of any commitments coming up....no mention of grimes at all.
they figure 80% of the class signs on ESD in December.
Bruin right now...15.5.6.4 Exceptions. [FBS/FCS]
15.5.6.4.2 Voluntary Withdrawal From the Institution During the Academic Year. [FBS/ FCS] An institution may replace a counter who voluntarily withdraws (e.g., transfer, official religious mission) from the institution during the academic year by providing the financial aid to another student-athlete, including an incoming student-athlete, beginning with the ensuing term (e.g., spring semester, winter or spring quarter) without making the second student-athlete a counter for the remainder of that academic year. The departing student-athlete’s aid may be canceled upon the institution’s receipt of a signed statement from the student-athlete releasing the institution from its obligation to provide institutional financial aid and verifying the voluntary nature of the withdrawal. If such a statement is received, a hearing opportunity (per Bylaw 15.3.2.3) is not required. (Adopted: 4/25/18 effective 8/1/18)
Also:
15.5.6.3.5 Aid First Awarded After First Year. [FBS/FCS] A student-athlete who has been in residence at the certifying institution for at least one academic year may receive athletically related financial aid for the first time without such aid counting as an initial award, provided the aid falls within the overall grant limitation. (Adopted: 1/11/89, Revised: 1/10/90 effective 8/1/90, 4/25/18 effective 8/1/18)
Academic year being fall/spring semester...so were any of the 3 awarded here in the spring as early enrollees?
You already have...requires comprehension ability as well as contrarian mode release.Well I guess I am Saying that we either lost 3 spots yesterday or gained1 on the 25. Solomon sure won’t count if the others don’t it they all Stay on $
I find it hard to believe they count I just want to see the Rule that explains it

i would too, and that leaves 2 spots to fill. and i'm starting to think that the kaho kid is getting one of them....So
Oxendine
Baron
Whitehead
Thomas
and DW
I'd take that and be happy.

i think they're trying to save at least one spot for one of those DL guys in case they flip...BJ, JH or JB...or Morven Joseph....but he seems more likely to wind up at UF at this point....but i think they like that kid a lot too....may be a case of whichever one decides to jump in....i think they'd like to think one of them will......but they're all flip candidates. so who knows. after those guys, is when you get in to what i think are the back up plan prospects at DL/DE....
Solomon WAS ALREADY COUNTED as part of the 2019 class against our 25 limit. He's one of the 22. So whatever point you think you're making about him has zero weight. Solomon is an initial against 2019, he just for whatever reason wasn't awarded a scholarship until now. Probably related to academic concerns.
The big headache here is the "why" we only had 22 in 2019 and 22 in 2018. And if that means we had any available counters for those two classes. Cause all 3 of these freshmen could be counted towards 2019 OR 2020, depending on how many counters we had/have available from 2019.
McBride should be 1 for sure...and Solomon was in the original 22 already. So that only leaves us wonder where the 1 came from. Tanner Antonutti is the only non football scholarship from the 2018 class...well and Banks now.
So, if Tanner voluntarily withdrew during this academic year then his counter could be used in the awarded year (2019) which technically I think has "3" free spots, since we only counted 22/25. Then with Banks you could look under bylaw 15.5.6.4.3 (replacement of an ineligible student-athlete) the counter could go against 2019 (awarded year) or ensuing academic year (2020).
So there might be a wrinkle in the fact that we "only" used 22 in '18 & '19 and the Butch Jones mess of back counting/forward counting was resolved through some recent updates to the bylaws.
It appears to me it’s either all 3 count or all dont
If they all count then they all can placed in any combination in the 19 or 20 class
I don’t think we should assume Solomon counts in the 19 class
Well they have to all count Bruin...otherwise they wouldn't be awarded scholarships.
Geeze man, it's too bad a thread can't ignore a poster. You're either really, really good at trolling or one of the most airheaded posters on this forum.
