Some have mentioned how rebuilding a program under the strict 25 limit, along with transfers, has made it harder than ever for a new coach to flip a roster quickly and helps the incumbents. A new proposal would allow for up to 30 in 1 class, though still be limited to 50 during a rolling 2 year period (maintaining 25/year average). Basically allowing a new coach to load up quickly...but then have to balance it out the next year. Not sure how much it helps, but found it interesting. Would make roster management an even more important skill for HCs. I'm sure it will pass as soon as Pruitt has flipped the roster completely 😂

Proposal in progress - Division I Proposal - 2019-42.

"Currently, an institution is limited to 25 initial counters and subject to an annual limit of 25 National Letter of Intent or offer of financial aid signings. An institution that experiences significant roster attrition may spend years rebuilding a roster back to the annual limit of 85 counters. With a national landscape that has seen an increase in transfers, early professional departures, hardships and general attrition, institutions are continually having to find new ways to maintain rosters that ensure a healthy number of student-athletes for practice and competition and maintain competitive balance. Allowing for 50 initial counters over a rolling two-year period with no more than 30 signings in one year would provide an institution the opportunity to adjust for significant and/or unexpected losses while maintaining the spirit of the current initial counter legislation."

Honestly I don’t know. I don’t think the rule states any difference iirc.

The only thing I am willing to bet is if you put a walk on on scholarship and then take them off the $ the next semester they won’t counting against any years 25 number.

@Devo182 really needs to jump in this because he’s the one that’s brought the rule here before. I’d like to see it again

Rule is very simple. Same as old 2 year rule, just cut to 1.

Exception—Agreement After One Year. [FBS] A student-athlete who has been in residence at the certifying institution for at least one academic year may sign a financial aid agreement for the first time without counting toward the annual limit on signings. (Adopted: 4/26/17 effective 8/1/17 for signings that occur on or after 8/1/17, Revised: 4/25/18 effective 8/1/18)

So, honestly, how do you guys think recruiting is going?

20th with 18 commits... I think how we finish swings some of our bigger fish.

We finish with 3 more wins, and we're probably pushing top 15. I think we've got at least 5 more spots to fill, could get up to 7 if we take a full 25 this class.

Is there any way “one year” can be defined as summer semester and fall semester??

Perhaps that counts as an academic year

This makes too much sense for the NCAA.

What did Derek Mason say that was so stupid? I missed it and heard the Midday 180 crew talking about it.

4 of the top 10 commits in Tennessee basketball history will be on the same team next year assuming JJJ doesn't go pro. At this point there's no way he does but I'm sure he will get better through the year.

Think those 3 guys signing for 2020 actually makes JJJ return next year. I mean why wouldn't he? Grant was still a 1st rounder after staying 3 seasons...and playing with other elite talent will just mean more team success, which should improve all their stock.

Honestly has some of the best deep ball accuracy I have ever seen, seems like he hits those wide-outs for Bama in stride 9/10 times
On the other hand...that is a lot easier when nobody is within 10 feet of you, and you are throwing to the pass catching group they have..the talent is insane.

But saying that...he is a really good QB.

Not sure if this is what you are referring to but He’s been basically saying that basically Vandy is never going to be a bowl team consistently. Says their facilities and such mean they can’t be consistent

I have no idea either. I remember seeing the language posted on here and I recall it being two years before you didn't can't as a class qualifier. I'd be willing to bet Pruitt is skirting the rules someway. No way he's using up our initial qualifiers.
Already posted this in Garland thread, but thought worth posting here too. The running theory, from the 247 guys who know about as much about the rules as anyone can be expected to, is like you said. They believe we have found a "wrinkle or rule change" because they definitely wouldn't be using up annual spots on PWOs when they could just wait out the 1 year residency rule.

So while this would normally have to count toward a class, it sounds like we shouldn't worry about that and be glad we have a wizard in compliance.

Can't disagree with the insane talent reference but regardless, hitting in a WR in stride is the same whether he's wide open or well defended..... ask JG

That rule combined with the others still
Means they count on the next classes 25. You need to notice that the rule says that they don’t count toward that academic calendar year 25 limit but it doesn’t mention the next year which other rules cover

That rule is just saying you can replace one of the 85 if they leave.
No it doesn’t. That’s just what you WANT it to say. 😅

I agree.

Show me where it says they won’t count as an initial counter on the next years class

I’ll wait patiently
Devo just did...and you responded. At the end of Spring they’ll have an academic year in tow. So the scholarships they’ve been allocated via departed players can merely be shifted to the versions allowed after one academic year. Full scholarship players not counting against a class...accept or not because you don’t matter.

Dear Lord just stop.

If they go on scholarship
BEFORE the end of a year by the rules we have seen here they had to count either on the precious years or the next years 25.

That’s plain and simple.

You nor any other rule posted here has shown that to be wrong

Wow. He said that? Good for him then. He ain’t wrong either.

Don't believe so. The only thing I can think up is Pruitt is guaranteeing these kids scholarships right now to lock them in, then maybe placing them officially beginning in the Summer...? That's all I got.

Fwiw he said “being put on scholarship starting now”

Just rewatched the video
