Probably a loaded but simple question.

Are we recruiting well enough to win championships?

Not yet. We're recruiting well enough to start competing for championships, but even Dabo didn't begin his rise to dominance with top 5 classes every year... it takes some time, Pruitt's only finishing up his 2nd year.

Clemson recruiting each year
2009 - 36th (Dabo's first real class)
2010 - 27th
2011 - 10th
2012 - 20th
2013 - 15th
2014 - 16th
2015 - 9th (First National Title)
2016 - 11th
2017 - 16th
2018 - 7th
2019 - 10th
2020 - 1st

Pruitt's first class was 21st, then last year's was 13th, and he's currently at 20th in year 3. Still hasn't won as many games as Dabo did in year 2 either, so should just continue to build momentum as the wins start stacking up.

Unless you know more than I have seen I don’t agree.

All I have seen is he left due to the assistant coach leaving and imo the ncaa shouldn’t grant a waiver for that under the current rules. That would open up a huge can of worms imo
Go figure you don't agree......... I swear I didnt see that coming.

The huge stretch to declare Mizzou southeastern, just to pick up that viewing market, gonna end up backfiring in this trajectory🤦‍♂️

We're holding the map upside down and looking at you next, Idaho.

I've always wanted to cheer on the Vandals.

Been making this point for years on here. You lay it out really well. You can still win NC's with total talent ratings in the top 20 if you develop a roster well and escape the injury bug with key players. Clemson's schedule helps them, so move the roster talent up to top 10-15 and your SEC team has a solid shot at it. So give CJP 2-3 more seasons and he has our Vols in that hunt.

The new 25 recruit cap actually will make it somewhat "easier" because the gap in rankings will be slimmer if you're forced to take 25 max.

Some of the elite teams were building larger classes...when your top 5 were able to pull in 28-32 recruits a class it left even less top talent, but with a 25 cap 5-15 will end up with average player ratings closer to top 5 than in year's past.

Browsing the FF while I'm sitting on a conference call. Caught this well thought out post in the "What Other Message Boards Are Saying" thread. Pretty reasonable take on the state of Mizzou's program from one of their own.

The Truth is Odom is horrible as a Head coach. He is so full of hubris and the Odom way he can't get out of his own way. He was gifted a incredible opportunity at Mizzou with a minimal resume other than he was a former player and current DC. He quickly turned his back on the Guy who hired him GP and decided to Junk our Defensive scheme that returned 9 starters and was top 10 rated. We quickly imploded and he had to switch back to the previous defense to appease his players revolt and to salvage his first season. He promptly reverted back to his dream scheme his second year with the same results and he had to again go back to a even front defense. He has had to fire two coaches Mid-season. He made a outrageous claim to the media that he inherited a bottom feeder program on life support, which is had issues but had a lot of talent left over From GP. His teams have played uninspired in bowl games and acted like punks at time with zero discipline.

I not a huge fan of Dooley but in Truth he doesn't have much to work with on offense this year. For some reason the OL has checked out or wasn't that good,Rountree has been banged up and our WR are just not that good do to average recruiting and worse development. The defense has held up their end of the deal but the Offense not so much. But Odom comments seem like his normal M.O. to place blame somewhere else to save his backside so he can keep his Millions without actually producing. And in reality all Odom had to do was beat Wy,UK,Vandy and Ark. and he would of got a extension and Salary increase. If he beat Tenn as well then his bump and extension would of been rather large and the majority of the fan base would of been Very VERY happy.

But in True Odom fashion he blew a Easy SEC schedule like a Hooker on Broadway. The sad thing is he will beat Ark. after we lose to you guys and he will retain his job for another reason. We are not Tenn. we can't fire a 6-6 coach who goes Bowling.

Ha Ha Penny and Memphis. This makes it so much better:

Playing James Wiseman in defiance of the NCAA was foolish and risky because it A) almost certainly wouldn't work out in Memphis' favor, and B) could expose the program to additional penalties. And now here we are. If Memphis would've just done what every other school does when faced with a similar situation, Wiseman, it's now clear as day, would've served a nine-game suspension and returned in time for the Tigers' showdown with Tennessee on Dec. 14. But now, because Memphis didn't do what every other school does when faced with a similar situation, Wiseman will serve a 12-game suspension,

What Memphis & Penny seemed to forget was Calipari had already gotten them "circled" as potential trouble makers. Not too long ago they had to vacate their best season in school history.

You have that sort of an infraction on the record, not too long ago you just play ball. No reason to be defiant, especially coming off the very recent FBI related investigations involved with men's basketball. It's a "thin ice" situation at the moment and I'm sure the NCAA would love to drop a hammer on a non blue blood school to make an example of someone.

Mizz will be tougher than folks on here think because their QB is back and getting healthy... I still think we win, but it will not be as big as folks think. Our Oline and secondary will need to play very well and we should be fine.

So...what's the issue with our RBs?

I keep reading that everyone thinks we "need" a RB, or Banks "needs" to pay RB if he returns...or that Crouch should get more looks at RB. This doesn't make a ton of sense to me honestly.

Ty Chandler is averaging 5.1 a carry (14th in total rushing yards in conference, 16th in YPC higher if you eliminate players with less than 100 carries)
Tim Jordan is averaging 4.0 a carry

There's only 2 guys ahead of Ty in total yards with less carries than him. I mean the teams everyone talks about in the SEC as big time rushing teams just do it a lot more often than we have. Hill for Miss State has 192 carries, Swift for Georgia 164, Edwards-Helaire for LSU has 158, Vaughn for Vandy 178, Harris for Bama has 144. Ty is sitting at 118.

I don't think the RBs are bad, I think the growing pains of breaking in a nearly completely new offensive line, with a new RBs coach, with a new OC is really what held back their production. I'm pretty excited to see the running game improve next season with so much of the beef & talent returning for the OL after the improvement they made this year.
Need Chandler to gave a big day catching out of the backfield. Florida 's RBs had a lot of success.

I’m anxious to see how we play coming off the bye week. Either way it’s gonna be a tough game, road games in November usually are. The team seems galvanized though, almost like nothing can phase them at this point. Missouri on the other hand is struggling to keep their team United. Not saying Missouri can’t play a good game but they haven’t looked good down the home stretch.

Sorry for the length of this post in advance. Posters can say what they want - message board. I see a lot of posts on here that bother me at times and want to address it. It's about the natural instincts and abilities of players versus what position they actually play.

CJP has the full authority to play a guy anywhere he wants if they want to be on the team and see the field. He did with Alontae Taylor. Taylor has played OK - middle of the pack SEC d-back. He may even get better and be in the NFL one day. But his natural position is WR. He doesn't demonstrate the natural instincts (yet) to break on the ball, to read the patterns/QB, to defend when the ball is in the air, etc. He does have quickness, the burst to separate and good hands. CJP knew he had quality and depth at WR, had nothing at CB, and talked Taylor into playing that position. Hope it works out for the team and Taylor's sake, but his natural position is WR.

Dools did the same thing to Teague. Teague was a prototype slot receiver who was a QB in HS. He could really do things with the ball in his hands that we will never know about because of that change. Throughout his career you could see that his natural ability and inclination was to avoid contact, to get away from the opponent. So he miserably failed as a CB. But coach worship on here said that coaches know better. Clue to some - coaches know they have to win to keep the big bucks flowing into their pockets so they will shore up poor roster talent and recruiting with moves they feel are necessary to win, even at the expense of the future of the young person who trusted them with their athletic career.

Fulmer/Chavis did the same thing with Rashad Baker, who was a natural WR that was unafraid of going over the middle and taking contact. They converted him to safety because of poor recruiting. Rashad played good, not great, at UT and well enough to make it into the NFL for an OK career because he was a quality athlete who was tough despite being undersized for the position. However, he and we will never know what he could have done at WR, his natural position.

There are many more examples that I could post, but the above makes the point. If Banks no longer desires to be a RB, that's a major factor in him not being one. However, he is a natural RB, not LB. He does not go down with initial contact with the ball in his hands, he strains to get more and punish the opponent that tries to tackle him. He is the very definition of a power back that can make a D very tired and totally focused on him, which frees up the O scheme. All he needed was work on ball security and to become more mature as a human being. CJP needed depth at ILB, so that's where he went. If he comes back and plays ILB I wish him the best for himself and the team. We will never know what could have been.

My final point is this. Each of the players listed above were recruited to play the natural position that caught the coaches eyes enough to offer a scholarship. All were offered to play their natural position at other P-5 schools. They were quality players that were athletic enough to play a different position once they arrived on campus. None of the players were given a normal period of time to develop in their natural positions before being converted and moved because the coaches were dealing with roster problems. So go easy on them as players. They are team guys that did what the coaches wanted them to do. Not sure that I would do the same, which is why I will not criticize players for transferring. It is their future careers at stake and coaches have different motives for their decisions at times. It's just the nature of the business.

I know it will be tough. I only give us a 50% chance of winning, but that is based on JG starting and the OL struggling.

If JG is really better and his recent play is not just a mirage, and the OL is back to pre Bama health..my odds go way up. We will be tough for them to beat even at home if those two things well.
