Let me set the scene....

(JR and Jerry Lawler are tapped to call the Taxslayer Bowl and are in the booth do the pregame commentary)

Lawler: "JR, this is shaping up to be a horrible Taxslayer Bowl. The Indiana fans are here but Kentucky is just having a miserable showing."

JR: "You're right King. Kentucky doesn't travel well and they never should have been tapped for this matchup in the first place. It is going to be a very poor....."

(Rocky Top begins to play from the stadium sound system!)

JR: "What the!!! BY GAWD THAT'S TENNESSEE'S MUSIC!!! TENNESSEE IS HERE TO SAVE THE TAXSLAYER BOWL!!!"

I saw something that fulmer and Pruitt originally stated mcb as the preference but late pressure from boosters and fans lead them to change preferences fairly late in the process. So that's where the confusion came from. But ultimately it was up to fulmer to choose between the 2 and they did within the appropriate time frame. The articles that came out early was just bad journalism not waiting for confirmation.

It's pretty clear UT requested the Gator and MCB-- in some order. But the players have been talking about a FL bowl for weeks and used that as motivation for winning out. The Outback would have been first choice, but we fell out of contention for that. Pruitt and Fulmer knew what it meant to the players and the SRs to go to a FL bowl. And it wouldn't have been a good look to take a less prestigious bowl than UK, which is recruiting against us. Most boosters wanted a FL bowl and made that preference clear a while back.

It doesn't matter now. It all worked out.

i like the version where we get to choose, and tell UK where they can go.
:)

I also think people are forgetting about UT vs Nebraska in Music City Bowl in 2016. Making this year the 3rd year since we appeared.

Obviously Kentucky and other media will paint it as UT "whined" but I think the SEC probably realized shuffling things around put everything back in line with the "no appearance within 3 years" rule they themselves have made.

I normally enjoy Nathaniel Rutherford's articles, but this one does not detail much other than that we are playing in the TaxSlayer Bowl.
It does have fulmer saying they went back and forth on their preferences. But that's about it.

So this is the "pecking order" for SEC bowls

CFP/New Year's Six (all lumped together since the CFP rotates within the NY6)
CFP Peach Bowl - LSU (13-0/8-0) vs Oklahoma
Sugar Bowl - Georgia (11-2/7-1) vs Baylor
Orange Bowl - Florida (10-2/6-2) vs Virginia

Not NY6 bowl, but listed above the Tier 1 bowls
Citrus Bowl - Bama (10-2/6-2) vs Michigan

Tier 1
Outback Bowl - Auburn (9-3/5-3) vs Minnesota
Gator Bowl - Tennessee (7-5/5-3) vs Indiana
Music City Bowl - Mississippi State (6-6/3-5) vs Louisville
Texas Bowl - Texas A&M (7-5/4-4) vs Oklahoma State
Belk Bowl - Kentucky (7-5/3-5) vs Virginia Tech
Liberty Bowl - N/A

Tier 2
Birmingham Bowl - N/A
Independence Bowl - N/A

So really Mississippi State should be pretty happy they somehow managed to draw a better bowl than they deserved.

so basically, it's UAB part deux?

and probably 9-3 at worst.

Georgia State 7-5 L
vs BYU 7-5 L
vs UTC 6-6 W
at Florida 10-2 L
vs Georgia 11-2 L
vs Mississippi State 6-6 W
at Alabama 10-2 L
vs South Carolina 4-8 W
vs UAB 9-3 W
at Kentucky 7-5 W
at Missouri 6-6 W
vs Vanderbilt 3-9 W

Combined Record: 86-59
Games Won Combined Record: 41-43

We only played 2 teams that finished with losing records.

Fulmer isn't going to release details and I doubt Pruitt will say much more. Players, fans and boosters wanted a FL bowl. Former trustee and donor Brad Lampley is MCB co-chairman and wanted UT in the MCB to guarantee a sellout. They're trying to boost the MCB's profile and UT would've helped. Doubt MSU brings the crowd or the viewership. I would expect UT to focus on the game now-- not the bowl.

Disney on Ice last month, F2 over weekend!

2 princesses were glowing. Makes you put aside all your personal feelings about Disney. Although those misgivings are clearly in back of my mind, i just do my best i guard them from it.
Frozen 2 didn’t come close to the original. Had some cute moments.
