How much weight is behind the Gilbert flipping rumor ? Its been out there for couple weeks, but really seems to be picking up steam now a day before signing
My physical Therapist is Gilbert's cousin. I just left there and I asked him about this. They aren't super close, but he said he'd be stunned if he flipped. Though, like I said, they aren't that close but he talked to him about it 2 weeks ago.

I guess it gets into the discussion of if the list is about career achievement or if you’re picking the best to come through. Like Russell Wilson was at Wisconsin one year, and I’d assume he’d make the all decade list, but Joel Stave started all 4 years I think. Especially in a down decade for talent, I think you heavily discount longevity.

Yeah, me personally 2+ years playing and being productive was my own criteria. Kamara being the only exception, partly because our RBs for the last decade haven't been strong and he was so dynamic.

Arik Gilbert won the Gatorade National Player of the Year. He's really is a good guy and I hope he kills it at LSU. He would spend lots of time after the varsity practice was over helping referee the little kids flag football games and doing other stuff. He showed up unannounced to help out at a toys for tots drive the other day.

Marietta's Arik Gilbert named Gatorade National Football Player of the Year | FOX 5 Atlanta

I hate he's not coming here. Sounds like a fantastic kid and would have probably been a great ambassador for us. Maybe in a few years the Panthers will draft him so I can root for him.

Wonder why the Athens police forgot to test him for DWI, search the players, search the car, or investigate the gun? And the ("neutral field") Atlanta and also Athens papers forgot to notice?
GA is all in on GA being good and staying out of trouble. Knoxville... not so much. This would have been every tweet from KNS for 2 months.

Until you star junkies learn that the recruiting services rank kids based on whether they attended camps, rumors of 40 times, and what they are told by the coaches of upper echelon teams, you're going to be upset with our recruiting. Recruiting services suck and I view them like I do the 1-800 psychics. The rankings used to be ok but over the years it's turned into more of a popularity contest. It's getting worse too.

Sure, I will agree that the very top of the rankings, the truly elite players, the top 20-30, probably are fairly accurate. After that it's a crap shoot. The different between a class ranked 8th, and a class ranked 15 is miniscule at best.

I get it, we want the "feels good" associated with a highly ranked class. I want the "feels good" of a highly ranked team. One doesn't necessarily translate to the other.

While attending camps is a big part of receiving a favorable ranking, it's not the only thing that matters. I would argue that the top 100-150 has more hits than misses once the player's college career plays out. I don't have research to validate that other than the fact that the schools that compete for a playoff spot consistently most likely have a average class ranking over the previous 3-4 years in the top 10-15.

I will generally agree; however, that the difference between the 8th ranked class and the 15th ranked class is relatively small (yet it is important to consider quality vs. quantity in these situations). The same can be said for the difference between the 15th ranked class and the 20th ranked class. One problem with that though is it ignores some context. For example, how does it compare to the other teams that you play each year?

It is silly to cite how USCjr beat UGA this year with less talent or Kansas St. beating Oklahoma. UGA sh** the bed on one day, sure. But, they also finished 11-1. How did they finish last year? That's what we are all striving for, right?

Noticed a lot of back and forth going on the last few pages. It's that time of year.

Personally, I think this class is solid. I don't think it will be the reason we compete for the SEC East in the next couple year (if we get to that point). IMO, I think the staff did well addressing the interior of the OL given the age, tranfers, and Trey Smith at those positions. I also think landing Harrison Bailey is very important. QB is the most important position on the team, and the staff got a really good one to add to an already solid group. I think we should have done better at the skill positions like RB and WR, especially WR. We get Palmer back, but the rest of the group is not proven and inexperienced. No real point in me addressing the defense because we return so many important players next year, and this class has several solid or really good players that will play at each level of the defense.

This class is a good class. It just sucks to see that GA and Fl will be top 5 classes or close to it. We just have to win next year and starting getting into the top 10

Check my first post. I don’t think much different than yours.

Malik over who for your team then? I did consider him though, I just ultimately chose to go with the guys who had been here longer.

Vickers and Malik could easily get swapped in over Kyle and/or Tuttle though.

I’m actually happy with the WR position, we needed speed and we’re getting elite speed in Hyatt, Holiday, and Calloway (good speed).

WR, Secondary, and RB are the weak parts thus far in the class.

Even with Calloway we're still only bringing in 2 WRs, and both the RBs while prospects I personally like aren't very highly rated. Secondary we have Lawrence and Slaughter, with Williamson possibly. I like the on campus guys, and the staff can develop this position...but would be nice to land a true CB or two.
