Also fired up about what he called a poor coaching job. (Alluded to it being unprecedented from what he has witnessed).

Yep. He’s fired up about it all. Just doesn’t think it’s fair to question the character of the kids. Basically saying there are times you aren’t prepared and get your ass handed to you.

Somebody needs to tell him it also isn't fair the fans still around at this point have had to deal with incompetent leadership and players not giving a damn for over a decade.

I'll say it again, any fan still around can react however they want. Fans have actually earned that right after the last decade. I don't agree with the buyout talk and what not, but whatever. Doug and the press that is placing any blame on the fans in anyway needs to STFU and GTFO. The Knoxville press is part of the problem anyway.

Got to thinking...can we come back from 15 yr slide? Are there any major programs that suffered similar droughts. Heres what I have:
Tx A&M (2002 - 2010): Posted two 4-8 seasons and one 5-6 campaign. Missed bowl games in 4 seasons.

USC (1996 - 2000): only one bowl appearance. One 5-7 season. Three 6 win seasons.

LSU (1989 - 1995): One 2-9 season, Two 4-7 years. Three 5-6 seasons. One bowl apperance.

Clemson (1993 - 1998): one 3-8 year. One 5-6 year. Two 7-5 seasons.

Or we may just end up turning into Minnesota or Colorado.
Oklahoma pre stoops was bad...for over a decade.

USCw pre Carrol wasn't much to write home about for a while (not sure how long)

and Bama had their issues after Gene Stallings. we thoroughly dominated the Tide for nearly a decade until Saban showed up.

there's plenty of precedents out there for us to look at. but none of them happened on accident....and none of them were sure things when they started back up either.

there's no formula here. i do think it's going to take longer than any of us want it to.....just depends on how much time anyone is willing to give this staff. or do you cut bait and start over, and give that staff more time.

just feels like at this point, each decision we make is a "5 year" decision. so tread lightly. i'm getting older............would like to see us competitive again....maybe before my kids go to college?

I think the point is Doug knows darn well that most of the players in that lockeroom deeply care about this program.

For you to say they don’t at best shows you don’t have experience with big time athletics and just don’t know any better or just plain ole blinded by emotion.

They can't react how they want, but whatever. I may not like where the program is headed and may criticize someone's play, but that doesn't give a fan the right to say as they please to a scholarship football player.

I understand everyone is upset and embarrassed. But Pruitt HAS to be the guy, if not it sets us back realistically another 5 years if not more.

All of his players seem to really like him and all of our current recruits speak highly of him. Let's get his guys in here before we start a GoFundMe for his buyout.

I do have one issue with him and that is he is to loyal to some of his assistants. If they're not working out he's going to have to make a business decision and not a personal one.

I agree.

I hear fans say over and over that this loss, or another, is embarrassing. That makes no sense to me. Why should we be embarrassed? We didn't play one single down. I'm not embarrassed. I still have my power T on the front of my car, still been wearing my UT shirt. As a fan, what would be embarrassing is if I was at a game when it was said "the crowd at Neyland sounded like a golf match", or worse "the crowd at Neyland sounded like a Vandy game". That would be embarrassing; otherwise as a fan I'm not embarrassed.

But what IS embarrasing as a fan is that some fans are even thinking about firing our coach after the 1st game in only the 2nd season. I don't care that the loss was unacceptable; that kind of talk is embarrassing. Thankfully, some posters are trying to bring sanity to the grieving.

Absolutely

Welp the brief optimism I had yesterday has completely eroded away. Practice clips being what they are, still managed to show me a lethargic, sissy team outside of a few.

BYU is going to embarrass us aren’t they.

Yes, these issues don’t get corrected in a weeks time. The meltdown will be even worse than Ga St because many are postponing grief waiting for a W to wash it away.

However, we have to stay behind Pruitt. There’s no quick fix.

Big Newt is right. I thought JG's problem was the OL and the play caller. But he looked exactly the same Saturday. The guy is not a winner. I'm sorry, but if we win 6, it's not going to be because he got us there. He might be the best we have, but I don't know how that's possible honestly. Whatever "it" is, he doesn't have it.

@chargervol @jakez4ut @Bassmaster_Vol y'all are messing me up with these dang profile picture changes.....

I've got a cool idea for the new thread. Since I can't imagine it's that much tougher to simply screen-shot a tweet and then post the image, could y'all start doing that for your brothers and sisters that are viewing VN from behind the iron curtain?

Awesome, thanks!

Going over the game stats for the first time its truly pathetic we let them out heart us to a victory. Their QB only completed 11 of 24 passes for 139(all on Burrell and the Reid it seems). They had no back average over 4 yards a carry. We had 3 pass catchers average over 15 yards a catch. Ty averaged a whopping 8 yards a carry(SMDH). Gray had 80 yards of total offense. I was furious with the D but those guys are very young with most seeing their first action and missing it's best two players. Pretty much equivalent to the offense not having Ty(sigh) and Callaway available. Callaway had 3 touches and so did Dom. But Gray had 6 catches from the check down king. After reviewing the stats I'm putting this loss on JG and on Chaney for sitting Ty or whoever choice that was. You don't take the best player, only 4.3 forty guy off the field for a entire half. Anything under 16 carries for Ty was just dumb dumb. He likely would've ran for 200 yards 3 TD's. Hope that lesson those guys taught him(a guy who's shown he's reliable) was worth it.

I see ya Bwoods 👋

Jordan Murphy lost both his mom and his dad. Kid lived with his grandmother in a bad part of Hattiesburg. Coach G was supposed to be his mentor but Pruitt fired him (terrible move). What he did was immature but I have nothing but pity for him. He’s lived a tough life and really doesn’t deserve the piling on.
