Yea plus the fact that banks plays over him while basically having no clue how to play the position is even bigger of a red flag. Hopefully he can at least turn into to a good special teams player and rotational guy.

Yeah I think at this point it is probably wiser to just not expect much out of JJP and anything he produces is just extra

The timeline and lack of concrete information was odd. Didn’t really align with typical “maybe not qualifying guys”. But who knows. He’s here and not making any kind of impact on maybe our thinnest worst LB group in recent memory. Disappointing to say the least.
So in this theory, implying the kid couldn't even pass HS in a timely manner is a 'cover story'?

What do you mean?
You think having to finish his work and pass his exam and wait on the grade wasn't true?
It might have been technically true but I don’t think it was the whole story. If I remember correctly, his grades didn’t line up with usual checkpoints.

No not at all. Just didn’t look like your typical qualifying situation. My guess is he had basically no shot of qualifying but the Thorton center found a loop hole or miracle to get him in. Kinda like Noel divine and West Virginia.

Rooting for Pope to have a career game this weekend. Get a TD or 2 for him and we win this game.

Would be awesome after what happened last year.
Not even sure he needs to be a huge factor in the passing game.

I like how they use him as an h back/full back. That could provide some opportunities in the run game or as a receiver it of the back field.

But him blocking is a big deal

After watching the game again, I don’t see why any of you want Maurer to be the guy. Shrout has the most potential. Got the ball out (too) quickly. Hell of a fastball. He just reminded me a little bit of Wild Thing Rick Vaughn.
I agree. If Shrout can get his timing down, he could be really good. His release is fantastic and it makes it really tough on a defense when a QB can get the ball out so quick.

Maybe but that's what we've all been assuming. Not exactly "fishy" *at least here*, considering it's what we all assumed to start with.

Just sounds like if the kid was making plays, no one is asking questions. If we're gonna do the Bama "nudge nudge, wink wink", we have to accept it's not 100%.
They have projects too.

Sorry i have higher expectations for Army All Americans at positions of need.
And banks is a running back playing lb and had been in the program the same amount of time (minus 1 spring) as jjp.

He is still young and could still be a dude.

But it's totally up to him at this point.

I’m with you. Shrout looked like the future to me.

The amount of highly rated LBers we’ve had in recent years who have busted is astonishing

Banks has a summer and a fall camp over him. 247 shows JJ Peterson enrolled 1 day before the WVU game last year on August 31st. You show up late and out of shape you arent going to get too much coaching up. Also has had some lingering issues.

Banks was never evaluated as a linebacker because he was a RB recruit. Has all the physical tools and has been busting his butt since before he got on campus. I'm happy Banks is doing well and leading by example.

Yeah because we got a huge sample size of either of the QB. Lol. Shrout got the ball out quick but looked like Dobbs (All over the place). Maurer looked like a young player trying to make the most of his opportunity. Looks fast but was only able to throw the ball 3 times. Neither QB got enough run time to honestly tell which is better but I would side with Maurer because of the upside.

He was retaking a core class

It seemed very reasonable that he was either retaking the class to get a better grade or there was a delay in completing the course work.

Agreed. I'm not unhappy with banks.
