I personally couldn't give a crap less what state a kid plays in as long as they're good. Honestly, I'd rather pull kids from Georgia and Florida mainly due to the better competition. I know we have a few good schools in TN too, but overall the caliber of competition is better in other states we're pulling from. To be elite, we have to be able to recruit nation wide. There's plenty of kids from TN that we've offered. Hopefully we snag a few. If they choose to play elsewhere, so be it.

I understand.... We do offer A FEW as far as are shown on here, but there are many offered, most by other schools, like Ole Miss, Miis St., LSU, Bama, and on and on the list goes. Looks like if these schools have offered, I would think we likely have also. Why do we not see them on this site?

I remember the animosity towards Phil here in ‘08. It’s easy to dismiss it now but it was ugly. “He just sits on his fat ass and takes the check and ruins our football program.” Hamilton very likely made the right decision by firing him. The bad decision was hiring Kiffin, although in the immediate aftermath it was absolutely the correct hire. This fanbase was as amped as I’ve ever seen it. Should’ve put a hefty USC buyout in the contract tho.

So true. Everyone was fired up. The rest of the SEC was scared. In Georgia, there were hourly updates on ESPN radio about Tennessee. Updating who had an ankle sprain in spring practice, or to which player Kiffin had offered a scholarship. They were obsessed.

DO WE NEVER OFFER ANYONE FROM THE STATE OF TENNESSEE???
Now don't say yes, if the are good enough. I feel there are quiet a few Tennessee high schoolers that are as good and the size or better as some of these "offers".

As far as I'm aware, we have offered TN kids. But we don't stop at the TN border.

I’ve often wondered the same. He had some good QB’s coming in and the chief still had it at that point. Just needed a redo on the OC hire.

It seems like a lot of Tennessee recruits want everything to be given to them on a silver platter because they saw how Butch recruited. Pruitt has been honest with recruits and it seems like the Tennessee kids aren't responding well to it. Painting with a broad brush here.

I agree with what you say, but if the other schools of equal level as UT offer do we, or why not. Just seems we are not getting them "posted" as offered on this site.

Find some TN kids with legit offers to Bama and LSU, and if they don't already have threads, start one. Problem solved. This is a message board, not a recruiting site.

I’m skeptical but he obviously would have been better than what we got stuck with for a decade.

I think he realized that he got lazy and complacent. I think he would have been like Mack (and Barnes for that fact) and been able to finish his career the way he would have liked to. Barnes was fired by Texas and comes here and revives his career. If the truth be told, we all have wished we could go back in time and change/do something different knowing it would be a different outcome.

Some offers are not committable. You have to be more careful when giving a bit short to an instate player also. It's been an uphill battle for Tennessee to get players from Tennessee unlike other states. So just go for the best players and find who wants to play for Tennessee.

I understand what you say, but we seem to start beyond the Tn borders and work our way in. I know Butch seemed to go overboard, but I think it was a reaction to the disaster that was the Duls effort in Tn and close around. Just wish we could see a little more coverage about Tn guys. Get a little tired of seeing Ga and Fla guys every damn day. I know I miss a lot of recruit news, but I don't remember seeing where some very high profile players at other schools were ever offered by TN, that is until some announcer says "this guy is from TN" and how good he is and implies or wonders how Tn missed on him or something to that effect. Gets old.....

True, some are not good enough, but how bout the many over the years that go to other schools and are successful? Yes, there are some who just want to go elsewhere, but you could still offer AND that offer be shown on this site.... You never know, if you don't offer, then you damn sure won't get'um.
