I think this is a good point. Florida athletes are just so much better. I'm happy to see us making inroads there with Lewis, Rucker, and hopefully others.
Remember, we won a National Championship with those Tennessee kids. While I agree on getting the best talent anywhere you can, I also think that having a good sprinkling of in-state kids with their Tennessee homegrown pride can lead to a lot of extra effort. By the way I have been a dedicated bass fisherman for about fifty years. Go Vols!!!

It was almost embarrassing: as good as we were that year and it still took 5 UF turnovers at our house to beat them by 3 in OT.
agreed. but our offense was abysmal in that game.....

i think you have to really hand it to the defense in that game. just kept making play after play after play......

I'm not saying the TN kids aren't good. They are, but the Florida kids are on a different level athlete wise. Fl recruiting rankings aren't they high, but they are always loaded with speed on defense because they have those fl kids.

A win against that Spurrier team with that much talent isn’t embarrassing. It’s football. Sometimes you have to squeak one out and get lucky.

Dabo has squeaked out a win every year he's been at Clemson. Football often comes down to a little luck to go along with the talent and coaching.

Loved this quote from Cody Brown:

“Tennessee is going out of their way to build personal relationships with us,” Brown said. “They’re showing us what it’s like to be a Vol and how they’re actually a family up there. Who wouldn’t want to play for someone they know has their back. It’s only going up from here. These coaches know how to win games and utilize talent. And with all of us guys coming in, we’re winning a National Championship.”

I noticed something during my rewatch of the 1998 UT/UF game.

Outside of Jamal Lewis, Tee Martin, and Peerless Price... it seemed like just about every other player they mentioned, they said their home State was Tennessee.

And that probably explains best why up to that game, Fulmer was 1-5 vs UF.

The Florida athletes just ran circles around the Tennessee kids. Hell, outside of Al Wilson - who had one of the best games I’ve ever seen a defender have that game - all our best players were from other states.
Well, all of that may be true, and I don't know much, but I do know Al Wilson is from Jackson, Tennessee.

Very true on the speed of Florida kids. It seemed like all three of the big Florida schools had speed. Also I believe in addition Florida's great offenses back then, we just sometimes wanted the game too badly and made a lot of mental mistakes. Game in point was the 1996 game where Peyton threw four interceptions in the first half and Florida jumped out to a 35 point lead. Yet, after we settled down, we darn near got them in the second half. I firmly believe that JP can get us past that mental block and Florida will become just another big game.

There are good reasons that Florida, California, Texas, and Georgia produce so many high quality athletes. Population, climate, school emphasis on sports, ample parks/ballfields/courts, and strong competition.

Which is why we have to recruit strongly outside the borders. Take the best in-state, go get the best you can everywhere else. If 40 players on the roster are from TN, they have done their jobs now that Nashville and Memphis areas have grown so large in population. But forget the roster going much past 40 is you want the program to be elite.

This is random... but can anyone recommend a sit on top fishing kayak under $500?

From experience, I think a 10 footer is maybe on the small side for a sit-on-top. I would think 12' would be optimum. The higher center of gravity makes them much easier to turn over. It is all up to your risk tolerance though.

I agree with you and to prove your point and kinda put mine down look at Clemson. South Carolina does not produce near enough in-state talent for Clemson to accomplish what they do. Just love seeing the in-state pride that would make the Tennessee kids jump thru hoops to be able to go to Tennessee.

It’s a legit place to bring back. I feel that Tennessee has the coaches. They just need the star power.”
from Terrence lewis...

feel like that's some vindication for us as fans.....nice to hear a prospect/commit "get it". especially one like him, brooks and kamar.

this is what we've needed.

well, obviously i agree. but i honestly think, from the sound of it, these kids are bought in.

i know it ain't over...long way to signing day etc.....

but i don't get the impression these are "soft" committments.
I agree. I also think them all committing together like this shows they are in it together. They're all talking to each other; they're all peer recruiting. I think these guys are in. Hopefully we don't blow it come the season

Oops! Wilftong spoiled the Evans commitment:

“I think we have a powerful class,” Evans said. “We’re coming in with hunger and ready to do what it takes to be that guy.”

I assumed he was referring to Tiyon Evans, since he had previously been mentioned in the article as well and Wiltfong seemed to be getting quotes from guys already committed, but if it was the DT from MD then oops.

I didn't realize there have only been 8. Tee has won it twice. And Ansley is poised to win it this year. God help the rest of the country if we can win 10 games this year and retain this staff for another offseason
if nieds keeps going the way he is, he's gonna win it again. lol. ansley and/or osevet may have to settle for 2nd.......

He probably was. I forgot about him.
