What a GREAT day!! The Vols continuing to get studs and my wife & I going to the hospital any minute now for the birth of our first child, a son. Jackson Pierce Turner.....named after the great Andrew Jackson, aka “Old Hickory”. A true Tennessean.
She’s so beautiful... pregnancy just makes them glow

Guys, Pruitt is such a stud.... My son's Fiance who is in Bham right now just texted saying Pruitt just got off the phone with her step-dad (who apparently used to play with Pruitt at Bama and has been a high school coach at one time) and he was asking about her step-dad's opinion of a football player at Vestavia right now... !!?? I mean, we are having an incredible recruiting weekend, it's Mother's Day, and Pruitt is still calling folks getting "Evals" on players today!

At keast that sounds like the plan. Bailey certainly could still take the job this year, and if he does and becomes a star, I wonder how that will affect Salter's commitment. Because he would essentially be coming in behind the established Bailey, and redshirting while Bailey is a true sophomore. Honestly, that would be the best case scenario for us imo.

I wonder if we're so used to only having one or two good players at the position and had to worry about egos and transfers. We forgot what an elite roster looks like, and to have a coach who's like, "My job is build the best roster, and if that means that a junior or senior, or even the 5 star qb we brought in last year, gets benched and transfers, so be it." We haven't had that kind of killer instinct in our program since 2001.

These are the recruiting class rankings for the past 20 years according to 247. I didn’t adjust for attrition and transfers are not included. There has been some chatter about the average rating for the guys in our 2021 class right now but I looked at a 5-year average (2015-19) for almost 20 “blue blood” teams and I don’t think that tells you a lot. For example, Alabama’s top 40 players may average out to 94.50 or so per guy but their total roster average is brought down by the balance of their roster to 92.98. Our top 40 guys this year looks to be around 93.63 so we have quite a drop off in the non-blue chip portion of our roster.

There were a lot of expectations for our 2015 and 2016 teams because we had recruited well in 2014 and 2015. We obviously had some coaching issues but that’s not what this note is about. We are largely in the same talent bucket as Florida and Oklahoma and when our recruiting is on the upswing we generally have more success on the field. Duh! The last time we had a run at “being back” we flamed out but owing to the staff we have now, and Pruitt in particular, having been there and done that, I think we’re apt to “be back” sooner rather than later. I think there’s a decent probability we could beat both Oklahoma and Florida this year. jmo.

On a related note, I wouldn’t mind at all if Alabama and Florida went back to pulling in classes ranked in the 40’s. jmo.

We need to start averaging Top 5 classes to get where Florida was, and Alabama is.

This, adjusted for attrition, would be eye-opening. What about looking at the 247 talent composite instead of class ranking?

Didn’t want to start a thread but after looking at our current commits I noticed we only have 1 OL recruit. Does this concern anybody else? I’m sure Pruitt is planning on taking a couple others but we have 21 commits at this point and are still in on other targets that aren’t OL.

It’s obvious the man has a plan.....it will work out.

I did that first but I didn't post it because we only have 5 years of data for that from 247, but here it is for your consideration:

Another thing is that for most of these teams there's really not that much separation which reinforces the idea that even if you have the talent coaching still matters. jmo.

Note: The only reason I chose these teams for comparison is because they're often in the discussion from year to year.

When this updates, I bet us and Florida swap places and gain on OU.
