Steve Spurrier. Was talking about this in a meeting today. Who’s the player that you whiffed on the most? Either as a recruit thinking he’d be great here. Or thought he would be great in the nfl and wasn’t.
Couple for me. My first year with Kiffin...Brandon Warren thought Even tho he was undersized thought he Would be a serious weapon here.
Brent Vinson. Easily the best pure athletes we had. Could do between the legs dunk off an oop. Never was committed and should’ve played WR.
J Allen was never the same after that hip injury.I really thought Kahlil McKenzie was going to be an All-American and future 1st rounder. Measurables were off the charts. I recall reading that in high school he was benching 225 at reps even 2/3 the DL at the combine weren't doing. Subsequently at his actual combine, we only benched 225 26 times, which was barely average for a DL that year. That's the Butch Jones work out program for you.
From an NFL standpoint, I really thought Jason Allen would be a star. Dude was amazing in college. Ran a sub 4.4 40 at the combine, had the length teams craved, and lined up everywhere in the secondary at TN. He stayed around for awhile, but largely was a bust.

Were you in the 82nd, brother?Cool story, brah. I was at Fort Bragg mobilizing for Desert Storm when this game was played. We were living in WWII-era barracks (back when @BaldBiker became a senior citizen) and there were no TVs. There was one at the little snack bar not too far away on post and we sweet-talked the civilian employees there into making sure they aired the Sugar Bowl on the TV that night. There were some very pissed off Notre Dame fans who also were mobilizing with us because they could not watch their beloved Irish that night. It was a great comeback win and especially sweet because the ND fans had been cheering vociferously for the Virginia the whole game. Good times!!
I've gone back and forth. On one hand, we could just take like 30-35 verbals and see how everyone develops over the Summer and plays in the Fall. Downside, this could be a bad PR move, since it is pretty obvious what we are doing and people will frown upon it when we start culling the herd.SIAP
When do the git shirts start happening? Seems like we are in on so many more highly touted guys that it may make sense to go ahead and cut ties with some guys now rather than wait.
I used to believe Byrd was wasted at WR. Now I lean towards both Martin and Byrd as talented athletes who weren’t talented players. Would’ve been great to see them properly coached up from the beginning tho.The ongoing question, I expected more from Justin Martin and Tyler Bird. Lot of players from the Butch era that never reached full potential IMO.
