I used to believe Byrd was wasted at WR. Now I lean towards both Martin and Byrd as talented athletes who weren’t talented players. Would’ve been great to see them properly coached up from the beginning tho.
He did end up being pretty valuable as a blocker but yeah lot of wasted talent there.

Khalil Mackenzie is the first name that came to my mind a well. I'm still surprised he didn't do more.
I still wonder how much missing his senior season hurt him/kept him from being re-evaluated a bit lower. But I agree, it was prettt shocking. Thought Kahlil, Kyle, Tuttle would be a historic DL.

If he did, it was probably just for exposition
He played 85 games with the White Sox in '93 and hit 16 HRs and 75 games with the Angels in '94 and hit 13 HRs. Like I said, a shell of what he was, but give him a full 162 game schedule and he would have been a 30 HR guy, with an artificial hip, which is mad impressive in my eyes

We got a bad ass over here.

Were you in the 82nd, brother?
Thank you for asking, but I was not. I was in 489th Civil Affairs Company (later we became a battalion) out of Knoxville. We were affiliated/attached with the 101st out of Ft. Campbell. Our job was to manage civilians and try to keep out of the Army's way and to provide emergency relief, if possible, where needed.

Byrd was actually productive as a freshman. Was dangerous with the ball in his hands. Butch failed to coach him. By the time Pruitt got here, Byrd had already fallen to 5th or so on the pecking order so we tried his hand at defense, which didn't work out. I don't know that Byrd would have even been a star, but he wasn't going to do much in the Butch development plan.

Awesome, man! Glad to know a fellow brother in arms on here!
