Five years ago today we brought Ashlee home from the hospital. While we were unaware that it was just the first time we would leave, after what would become (now eight with a little dental procedure she had last year) SEVEN surgeries, we were never happier.

Ashlee just came inside 10 minutes ago, after playing with her sisters outside for what must have been the last 5 or 6 hours. It's hard to imagine sometimes just how far she's come.

VolNation played a big part in keeping my sanity during that time and, thanks to @volatil, the staff at STR, @Atlanta VOL, and countless others on this site, we were able to get through it financially.

I haven't forgotten. I never will. We have tried to pay it forward at every opportunity. You all just don't know what affect the generosity and kindness of strangers had on our family...

So thank you again, VolNation. Y'all are my people.
Don’t know ya, but I feel like I do, and I love ya like I know you. My heart swells every time I think about Ashlee’s story, and I take great pride knowing this fan base did what it did. It is one of the huge reasons I bleed orange even more than I thought I could. Bleeding orange and being a Vol goes way beyond cheering on our sports teams. It has been shown on numerous occasions here. Gives me chill bumps every time. ❤️🙏

I’ll say it, God is good.

This will always go down as one of my favorite memories.
A friend scheduled his wedding for that day. There were a bunch of Georgia fans there including the groom. Not super annoying fans. Just the type that are invested just enough to make it fun/irksome but will be the same the next day win or lose. And there was one Tennessee fan with me who was part of the wedding party.

During the reception while waiting for the meal, I started streaming the game on my phone with my Tennessee friend. A few Georgia fans were at another table streaming the game.
When Eason threw his TD, one of the girls ran over to our table and playfully taunted us.

Dejected, I let the stream continue on my phone but didn't pay it much attention.

Well, it turns out our mobile streaming must have been behind because the ESPN banner popped up with the Final score and Tennessee winning.

I said "I don't know what's about to happen but we NEED to watch!" I slid the phone to other side of the table where my friend was, got up and ran around to it and we both watched Dobbs drop back. The rest will be forever Vol legend and lore.
We were so excited we started running in circles around the Georgia table jumping up and down singing Rocky Top. The DJ who had been playing some background music quickly picked up what was happening and put on Rocky Top (he was seriously on top of that).

Best wedding ever. I think it may even top mine if I ever have one.
Double post. From months and months ago..... lol

Reading about how Notre Dame is prepping for the fall and I really think this OU game isn't going to happen. Play an all SEC schedule and one OOC and I am sure the University would want that to be at home and not lay out the costs for travel to OU. The PAC 12 is probably going to have an entire conference schedule.

What is the thinking behind the abbreviated season? Is it that teams missed out on spring ball and would put players in danger by not being in shape?

I felt like I always had to work twice as hard at math growing up. One of my weaknesses is that I'm not detail-oriented on things that I don't really have lazer focus on. In math courses, that means lots of opportunities to make mistakes on assignments with definitive right and wrong answers. I hated it. I loved history.

Once I got into grad school, I started using computer programs (which prevent a lot of calculation mistakes) and took graduate level stats courses using data on problems related to my research, I enjoy the hell out of crunching numbers now.

I think there's just a fundamental issue with the way we teach math to kids.

This right here. I’m more of a narrative kind of guy. I liked math when I invested the time to learn the rules and understand the patterns. Felt more like each equation/problem was telling a story.

I was at a wedding also that day. Yours sounds more fun, but I will never forget the rumble around the tent right after it happened. Pure bliss.

Seconded (or thirded?). I didn’t need a ton of math in biochemistry, but I was just okay at it. But then I took math for biosciences, which put everything into some sort of context. It was a broad survey of math tools you could use for research, but mostly it was calc and matrix algebra. The book is excellent imo (I’m looking at it right now) because the way it describes scenarios helps you wrap your head around each variable. These are the sorts of problems you usually only see at the end of a section of a math book, but should probably be the only problems in there. That was a long way of saying knowing what a tool is for makes it much more interesting, and a whole lot easier to appreciate.
