Took my two boys to the OBX all the way to the N.C. VA border 2 weeks ago, love every minute with these two, PS a must do for any Jeep enthusiast!

That water had to be a little cool. We went several years back in June, and it was cool.

That said, one of the fun moments was driving down the beach. We stayed in a place not too far from the beach access. Never been to a state border on the beach until then. It was a long, long drive. Probably the only trip we will make there.

You gotta want to get there for sure lol

Funny how you remember details so vividly. I remember everything about the day she was born from almost hitting a deer in the way to the hospital that morning to outing her to bed for the first time. The second night up for the better part of 24 hours because I was so pumped and excited. I remember Tennessee losing to LSU that night, I want to say Jamarcus Russel was their starting qb.

Hell I can't remember peoples names at work. Funny how that works huh? Happy early birthday to your not so little one!
Had my first born on Dec 3. It was cold and we were both a nervous wreck. I put him in his crib, every sound he made I was up out of bed checking on him. Told the wife he’d freeze to death by hisself. Took 5 years to get him out of my bed lol. Mistake on my part

Live in Memphis. Drove to Charleston and stayed at in-laws beach house for 3 nights. Drove to Corolla. Stayed week. Drove to Charlotte. Drove home, lunch at Gus’s in Knoxville.

You get past Raleigh and think you are close. Nope. We had 2 kids under 4 years old.

But it was fun.

I live in Charlotte and can drive to Pittsburgh faster than I can to nags Head... Long drive for sure. But worth it...

Been thinking about a interview I heard on a Knoxville radio station a couple weeks ago and wondering what the opinions of this theory would be on here. Before I go on please understand I didn't grow up a Vol fan. So while I continue to learn the history of the program realize I don't have the same perspective as some as I didn't move to TN until 2006. Started rooting for the Vols in 2010ish and a season ticket holder in 2015. So I missed the glory years and would really like to get back to that so I can experience it first hand.

I won't say the station or the person making these comments at first because I already know most would tune it out just based on that haha. But the interviewee brought up an explanation of our current status in the CFB landscape. On the surface it makes sense. But didn't know if he was just hating on UT. He said one big reason we are struggling is because of how CFB has exploded over the last 20 years and tv deals probably hurt teams like us and Nebraska the most. Mainly because almost every game is on TV or a streaming service and everyone has weekly access to almost every team now. Where as in the 80s and 90s we were regularly featured on a national broadcast and kids from all over the south followed us. Many of them came to UT so they could play on a big stage in front of a national audience on TV. Which is why CPF could go into South Carolina (and other surrounding states) and recruit big name players to come to UT. He continued by saying our expectations as fans haven't caught up with the effect TV has had on our program. Also mentioned its hard on us because Tennessee isn't really a power state in terms of high school talent on a national scale.

On the surface it makes sense. I just wondered what the opinion was on this from some of you seasoned UT vets. For the record I don't like this guy as he is a big UT hater. Just found this outlook interesting.

Forgot to post this on Friday. Thought I’d share a little happiness up in this joint. She was hiding behind my wife’s ovaries but we got some good shots of her. Friday made 20 weeks on the nose and she already measures at 12 ounces. Baby girl is so healthy. We were told she’s in the 75th percentile for her growth at this stage!
That's great news congrats brother! I have two girls (9 and 7) and wouldn't change a thing. 9 year old loves the Vols and enjoys sports and the 7 year old loves dolls and princesses so I feel like I got the best of both worlds. Took them to their yearly pediatric visit last week and they are both off the chart for height. Who knows maybe one day they'll be a Lady Vol haha. We can dream can't we lol.

It's impressive to see Bama change what they need to in order to stay dominant.

They used to win with Defense - 9-6 kinda games.

Now Saban knows it an offensive world - wins by scoring more points even if it means the defense gives up points.

Easy to change when you have Carte Blanche to go get whatever player you want without any regard for the rules or threat of repercussion.

Offense is now the way? O.K. I’m going to go get the best WR and QB and OL money can buy.

Saban is great no doubt. Better than most. But let’s not act like he would be the GOAT or replicate this anywhere else without the entire state behind him running a network that gets him whatever he wants with the conference front office in Birmingham and right across the street from the Alabama Sports HOF.

I would be willing to bet there are 10 other coaches that see this same thing but are straight limited as to how fast they can just change trajectory with personnel and coaches.

There's something to that in merit.. But... With cable TV and ESPN coming in main stream in the 90s, and the CBS deal... TV wasn't THE same draw it was in the 80s.

That said it's definitely not a factor now.

I think what had more impact than anything was just how much money was available for distribution among all conference members.
The gap TN had on the bottom 3/4 off the sec in terms of revenues was rather large and that helped TN pay for facilities, coaches, recruiting budgets among other things... Programs like UK, USCe, vandy etc.. Really couldn't compete.

Now everyone has great facilities and coaches all make millions.. So that gap is closed and recruits can get virtually the same experience at those other programs....

The landscape is different.. Not just at places like TN.. But also at those programs that we used to consider "less than"...

Sustainability today is much harder in the sec... But one thing has been proven.. If you get the machine rolling, like at bama, it can keep rolling... They have a very reliable product... Even programs like uf, UGA, Auburn, LSU.. Who have all had great success the last 20 years, have not been able to sustain at that level...

UGA has a shot at it but at some point they're going to have to Prove their product is as reliable as bama's... Or it won't sustain either. At least not like bama.

We have no real choice but to play the long game. There is no quick fix for us right now.

Point being.. When many other factors are relatively the same... The differences for recruiting come down to "state of the program" type issues.. Who's winning at a high level? Path to the NFL? Culture? Coaching? Etc...

So many little details that I remember. And yeah - that person I’ve worked with for years....will never get their name right. Happy birthday to yours as well.

Even though I think that has been the case for us the last 12-15 years I’m not sure that’s the whole reason. Growing up my family had the main 3 channels and PBS. We were able to pick up Fox in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Now there were some people in the cities and rich people had the 6 foot TV dish to pick up more programming, but it wasn’t like we got a lot of games. Of course, NBC had all the Notre Dame games which I think was and is ridiculous that a channel is able to dedicate one team to cover.

Tennessee was coming on not only TV, but they were coming on as a college power in football. CPF had it easier to pluck great players during those years and there were only a few good teams in the SEC at that time that helped too. CPF after going through the TWIO would almost always run the table with teams like Kentucky, Vandy ect.. on the back end of the schedule.

I think all the teams in the SEC are much better now. Everyone gets good players these days. Tennessee is not a hot bed for HS talent like some of our competitors. Coaching is much better on the whole too. Along with us firing CPF and the subsequent terrible hires we have fallen in stature in college football. All of these factors have contributed to where we are currently.

With all that said, I still believe we can be a top program again. It is just going to take time and we have to start winning games that are basically upsets and recruit like crazy.

I understand that but the more replays you have the less quality of the product for the fan. My suggestion keeps the flow of the game going much better and only makes a stoppage of play when the official is perceived to have made a mistake. Under your the “let the camera get the spot” the game would be stopped every such play.
In what world would the game not be stopped in your scenario? So the sideline ref is just supposed to quit running with Hyatt to the endzone, go stand with his foot at a very specific spot on the sideline, not blow the play dead, and then the refs convene about it afterwards? The guy with his foot on the end line had the best view. It’s his call. You either take him at his word that he got it correct, or if it’s too close he should just allow the play to go on and let replay sort it out.

I get the frustration. I'm 49 and was fortunate enough to see the 90's. The streak against Bama was nice, the one against UF not so much. Here's the thing. I bought into Lane but moreso the staff with Monte, Chaney and Coach O. That relationship didn't last too long. I never believed in Derek the Doofus, sure he quoted Rommel and others, but it never felt like he was the right one. Butch, he came from tagging along behind what Kelley had left. Add in his brick by brick and whatever other innuendos and he came across as a used car salesman, especially when you listened to the BJ shows on Sundays.

I won't sit here and pretend JP is the man. I think it's more than fair to question his staffing moves, especially Brumbaugh when it costs the University upwards of 800K. Helton...I can see the allure but maybe JP was too young in his career and had his fingers all over the play calling. I'll give him a pass on that one as I consider it better than Butch promoting Larry Scott. I never once felt like that was going to work. I also think it's fair to critique him on not playing others when the game is over at the start of the 4th qtr.

JP has his work cut out for him no doubt. We aren't tOSU, Bama, UGA, LSU, etc where we can cherry-pick kids within 300 miles of the campus. The days of Fulmer rolling into SC and grabbing a Haynesworth no longer exists. JP and his staff will have to work their asses off to recruit at that level until we start winning. I do believe they're giving that effort. I like the kids they're bringing in.

I personally am willing to wait a few more years to see what he and the staff can do with players like Omari, Keyshawn, Bailey, Hyatt, Lenneth, etc. I do believe he has recruited rather well and when you swallow your pride and realize we aren't the UT of the 90's you maybe willing to cut him a little slack. If he fails to develop those players in the next 2-3 years and we're still losing by 30 to Bammer, then I'll likely agree it's time to look elsewhere. Until then I am in no mood for another coaching change.
Now...this is common sense, and it is pretty much how I feel about it.

I’m seriously hoping mine is. I’m right at almost 6’5” and my wife is almost 5’10” & built like a volleyball player. We’re like the ideal combination to build athletes. I don’t care if mine is a girly girl or not, she will be outdoorsy like her daddy no matter what. I just hope she gets her mamas intelligence. But I appreciate it, buddy!!!

I’m going to be genuinely disappointed if we don’t use these two weeks to prepare another quarterback.

JG isn’t it. Let’s use these remaining 5 weeks to figure out who the quarterback of the future is.
I just don't see it happening. He has a soft spot for the kid or something. I think he is making a mistake. JG may be a great practice QB, strains , and does things the right way. It is not translating to the field. The head coach should know and feel the pulse of the team. I think he has a morale problem .
