There could never be a more obvious decision. Walk in the door on the left and it's instant death. Walk in the door on the right and it is life and prosperity. That is the clarity of this decision.
Coaching changes are a lot about luck and timing. Well, both of them are on our side here and the obvious choice is Freeze.

Wonder what Quez Glover would do this year?

Considering we just now may have a (true) point guard this year!..as a freshman Quez was top 5 in scoring for the Florida gators coming off the bench so I think he will be alright!..definitely could have helped us more last year!..vescovi needs to be our pure shooting threat to replace Bowden.he’s too slow for the SEC to drive or handle.plus who doesn’t love a Knoxville product 👀😁💁🏽‍♂️ I would have taken Glover over pember just from a needs standpoint.when Jordan bone left we literally had zero point guards behind him to lead or run the offense.

there's no absolute certainty in either of those statements....

i'd take hugh freeze right now. if i were the decision maker, i'd be working towrad that.

it still has a degree of risk, and there's no certainty whatsoever that he'd turn it around as fast as some of you think. i do think we would see dramatic improvement offensively, pdq.
Complete truth

I can’t wait to look back a year from now and remember how we had a chance to save our program after going 6-6 in 2021 and realizing we have to give the next coach three years minimum to start winning again. I think I’ll just completely check out.

What do you mean by consistently win? A good coach should go 8-4 here on a yearly basis. Our last two coaches have done it and both have shown to be terrible. If 8-4 is our floor I’ll take that all day every day especially when the playoff expands.
Our last two coaches weren't going 8-4 on a consistent basis. Not sure where you're getting that from. Sure, Butch had two out of his 5 seasons at 9-4, but then he tanked in year 5 and got canned. If either Butch or Dooley had been consistent 8-4 they might still be here, IF they were also showing themselves competitive against the elite teams.

Pruitt on SEC Teleconference

We found out right before we went to the field that our game was cancelled. We went ahead and practiced on Texas A&M. Our guys are disappointed, but they have done a good job managing all the COVID stuff.

Two tests this week and no positive. Going to try and keep our routine as close as possible to get ready for Auburn next week.

Will use a couple of days to go back to camp like work.

We are practicing the next two days and will make the decision tonight on what to do Saturday in terms of practicing or going home.

On players handling unknowns...

It's unique. When we came back in June it wasn't normal. We moved things back in July. So changes are not unusual for them we are adapting and worrying about the things we can control.

Evaluating your performance...

You are judges based on your record and based off our record it's not where it needs to be that's obvious.

Do you think coaches should be judged differently this year because of the pandemic...

It's kind of unusual. The circumstances are for everyone but at the same time everyone's circumstances are different. There's nothing you can draw upon going into the season. Our priority has been the safety of the student athletes. Staying Covid free and maintaining some normalcy. Our kids continue to work hard and we all need to do better in our organization to be more successful on Saturdays.

Scrimmage this week?

We went 40 plays with our younger players at the end of practice and we will continue to do that the rest of the season.

On McDonald...

He had a very unusual circumstance with he injury to his shoulder. Given we didn't know we would play we went ahead and did the surgery. He's taking advantage of the opportunities in front of him. He has size, skill and instincts. He's just catching up from all he missed.

adjusting to the schedule change....

"Talked to Jimbo on Monday and knew it was a possibility but we continued on with our preparations. We adjusted some things practice wise. We probably worked 3 periods on our opponent and 3 on ourselves."

difficult recruiting in this climate...

Difficult for the student athletes because they can't take trips and sit down with guys face to face. It's really tough for the seniors in high school. For coaches, the evaluation process is tough with no spring evaluations, summer, or fall. There are fewer games to evaluate. From a coaching staff we have worked hard to stay in constant communication and grow relationships.

There is no better man to summin into this discussion while asking some serious questions for clarity!!..YO MY MAN! @de1conley whats going on behind the scenes with the players what are they feeling? Do you think Pruitt is on a hot seat as of now?.what do you think about a Hugh freeze hire?...🎤📞

Hubbs is right. Your past the point of worrying about record. You just lost to Arkansas.

Your job now is play a mix of the best player for now and best player for future. You have to see what these guys do on the field. Let them play with instincts. Older guys more likely to give up while young guys will play with energy to stay on field.

He needs to figure out which guys plan to return from older group and which will move on. Then make the moves. Where it’s close you pick potential. Such as WR Keyton and the freshman need to get most of the reps with Palmer over a Tillman/Johnson. I’m not out on Keyton like some because he showed he has potential last year and none of our WRs are getting much chance with QB situation. I think he should probably be in slot where he looked good at times last yr.

Star should be Key or Slaughter. I think we need to look at Alontae more at Safety. We need a playmaker back there.

Beckwith needs reps. We need a big back so give him some carries to wear out some of the defenses to make it harder for them to tackle gray. Gray gets hit and falls backwards but if you have a guy to lean on them a bit then some of that goes away.

You threw your hands in the air about it. UT isn’t just unlucky. It is incompetent hiring and firing practices.

For instance, it could be viewed as bad luck that Freeze is available in the year of COVID and financial struggles. Or, it could be viewed as amazing luck that Freeze messed up at Ole Miss, went to Liberty, and is available in a year where our current HC is once again showing extreme incompetence.

It should be viewed as amazing luck just based on the fact that there is an actual elite coach out there with huge ties to the state of TN and who has actually said this is a dream job of his. When have all those coaching qualities aligned in the past 15 years?
i think this just proves it all depends on how you want to look at it.

my only point in responding was that the notion those other moves were made specifically to "go get" their guy were false...in particular for the two big names on that list, being saban and mullen.....that bama/fl both "wound up" with them was lucky for them.

we too, have "wound up" with coaches down our list, and have not been so fortunate.

that's it....and the one guy we did fire a guy for, kiffin, that didn't work out either....

so taking all that in to account, it's at least as likely we could wind up with our saban, as it is we wind up with another kiffin....

there is no magic formula that automtically equals desired results.

I just want to know if anyone in the AD acknowledges Hugh Freeze could be hired here tomorrow if there was an opening but @Atlanta VOL wont answer that. Our AD can’t be so inept to know that hey this guy is available and would come here... I just want to know we aren’t too stupid to realize it’s there.
