i bolded those parts for affect.....i realize i'm leaving some context out.

but that's not the best case scenario. unless you just want pruitt fired, and that's all we care about.
How did you get that from what I said? I am giving him another year and saying he has one more year to prove himself or be fired. Come on man. What I typed in it’s entirety is better than going 3-7 instead of shutting everything down now. Our class will fall apart and everyone will want Pruitt fired. If it shuts down now, he gets one more year to prove himself or he is our. Also, good chance freeze is still available if it doesn’t work out.

No chance. Butch we fired after going 4-8. People would not have come after a season like that. Same with Dooley going 5-7 in year three. Year four would have not had many fans. If we win 3 games, we are not filling up Neyland stadium. Let’s just pray they shut everything down.
we went 5-7 like a million years in a row. they still showed up.

they'll stop showing up when things are apparent that it's going south for the season, like they did under Dooley for that Bama game....

but TN fans will still show up to games....until there's no real reason to....new season..new hopes....as long as they win to start, they'll fill it until hope is gone.

Even if fully deductible, still only saving 30% or whatever. Maybe he doesn't want to give 70% of 5 or 10 million away for something he doesn't care about.

I kind of worried as much, he's never been a name popping up when we get to this stage. He puts the Vols in his TV commercials and that's about it, it would seem.

And at this point contributing to a buyout or another coach is likely a bad investment. We haven't done anything in the past 12 years to prove otherwise.

all joking aside, there are a lot of attributes Pruitt has that are very fulmeresque...some good...some not so good.....but there is a lot of similarity between two imo.

The most annoying being the lack of creativity on offense. Pruitt lost all his defensive guys on staff, and sadly Ansley isn’t ready to really be a full time DC that or Pruitt isn’t ready to hand it off.

To me though the job of a head coach should be to find a DC & OC they compliment one another and can be the CEO of their respective side of the ball. The HC then left to oversee the entire team, help the positional coaches where they need to be helped, and overall be the example for the entire team. High energy, charismatic and hard working.

Only showed up because we had new coaches and new hope. So we gave each one three years. It’s year three and if he regresses and wins three games, fans are not pouring out to Neyland. Crazy talk.

I thought the same thing. I recently read that JP calls the DL then Ansley calls the LB's and secondary. Perhaps JP should start focusing on being the CEO and let Ansley call the defense. After all he's being paid quite handsomely to do just that.
Pruitt is an elite DC. It was a mistake to let Ansley call the defense. IMO, Pruitt is frustrated when he is not calling the defense

i've been one, lately, to believe that he's meddled too much on offense, and not enough on defense...but in reality, the opposite is probably more true.

he's openly said he wants more aggressiveness on offense, so it'd make no sense for him to come out and call the offense out if he's the one meddling in it and demanding more conservative style of play....so i think he's pretty much given the offense to Chaney and those coaches, and let's face it....the offense has coaches that he would seemingly trust to just handle it....Friend and Chaney alone have enough cache with pruitt to warrant that.

on defense however, i think that's hwere he's meddling the most, to their detriment. and that's not to say i think Ansley is doing great, but Felton and Nieds are probably abit over their heads, and Ansley may not be ready. he alrady fied the DL coach. and it's a known that he's taken over defensive play calling in games.

so, long story short...i agree, specifically on the defensive side of the ball.

One last thing-- Bailey has the potential to be a really good QB for us. He has the tools, the attitude and the work ethic. He needs development, coaching and in-game experience to make the transition. It's really hard to get that parked on the bench. Just ask Shrout.
Blows my mind he’s not getting meaningful snaps if that’s the case!!

So, with Pruitt making the call to fire the DL coach, we can assume that he's micromanaging, because that was Ansley's guy. Any philosophical differences wouldn't have been between those two. So, are we to surmise that Pruitt is also meddling in the Offense as well and Chaney isn't given the leeway to even choose what starting QB to develop? That might be what lead to Hubbs piece this morning?

If he doesn't trust him to call the defense then why hire him? I'm not being argumentative and get what you're saying but he needs to be able to trust Ansley or else this could be another bad hire. JP needs to focus on being the HC cause right now he's failing at both calling the defense and running the team.

Imo. A lot of fans would cut Pruitt some slack if he trotted Bailey out instead of JG.

i remember the #emptyneyland campaign...didn't work then. won't work now....it is what it is. htey showed up in 2011 and 2012 until the writing was on the wall for those seasons. they showed up in 2017, until the writing was on the wall.

they'll show up next year too. until the writing is on the wall....plus you have no idea what changes are in store for the staff!!!

yeah, but shrout was a project from day 1.

HB has been more or less training to be a D1/P5 QB since 8th grade.

learning curve, yes...shoudl be a relatively short learning curve compare to a guy like Maurer or Shrout. or even JG for that matter....

hoping we get to see him play some more.

i think Pruitt believed Ansley, both being cut from the same defensive cloth, would be more 'in tune' with him philosphically. seems there's still a bit of a disconnect? and maybe they still dont'; have a good grasp personnel wise to do the things they really would like to do.

and ansley doesn't seem as aggressive as Pruitt in calling the defense.....the 4th qtr against Arkansas....everyone's talking about what a difference in performance between the 3rd qtr and 4th qtr....who was calling the defense in both qtrs?

You're right. I didn't mean first-choice-- just that Pruitt picked them. Some guys weren't interested. As we move down the board, guys negotiate hard, trying to get a golden parachute. Pruitt's a good example, and Chaney's a better one. Chaney wasn't biting until we anted up and anted up. And now he doesn't need another gig. He can retire.
How many staff changes do you anticipate this year? I would imagine that it’s getting more difficult for CJP to hire assistants.

The lack of aggressive play calling and blitzing has been evident. What makes it even more strange is why would you do it more last yr when you actually had someone that could get after QB himself vs now when you know you need to manufacture pressure. We all of sudden we’re very aggressive in 4th qtr.

I finally watched game last night. Outside of the two big plays on the two drives in 3rd qtr the defense played well. They still played hard to the end. Offense is the problem. I don’t see the same effort and passion from thst group which comes from the QB frustration. Even Cade Mays seems to give up on some plays. However I noticed a little more push and pep in the 3 drives we have seen Harrison play in. Kids may be ready to rally around him offensively
